Dear Brooko,
The issue with your Google Nest devices randomly stopping radio streams is likely due to a known, intermittent connectivity problem or a potential firmware bug that has affected many users in Australia, particularly those streaming via RadioApp service.
Here are the recommended steps to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the issue:
Basic Troubleshooting Steps
1. Reboot your Wi-Fi router and all Nest devices: Unplug your internet router/modem, followed by all your Google Nest Hubs and Google Home Mini. Wait for a full 60 seconds (1 minute), then plug the router back in. Once the router is fully back online (wait a few minutes), plug the Google Nest devices back in. This can resolve general connectivity glitches.
2. Check your network stability: The problem may stem from an unstable or weak Wi-Fi signal, especially if your devices are far from the router.
1. Run a speed test on your network to check stability
2. Consider moving your devices closer to the router or using a Wi-Fi extender to improve signal strength.
3. Use specific voice commands with the server provider: The streaming issues often relate to the default service provider (like RadioApp or Tuneln) used by Google Assistant. Try asking for the station provider specified:
1. "Hey Google, play Fox FM on Tuneln"
2. "Hey Google, play 3AW on RadioApp"
3. This workaround might provide a more stable connection if one specific service is experiencing a temporary outage.
4. Re-link your radio/music service:
1. Open the Google Home app.
2. Tap your profile image, then select Assistant settings > Services > Music (or the specific radio service).
3. Unlink and then re-link the service to refresh the connection.
Advanced Options and Community Status
Check for known outages: The issue you're describing has been a recurring problem, often tied to specific Firmware updates from Google that affect certain audio formats (like ACC streams) used by Australian stations.
You can check the official status and updates from the provider on the RadioApp FAQ page.
Factory reset (last resort): If none of the above work, you could try a factory reset on one of your devices to see if it resolves the issue, but note that many users report this doesn't help with system-wide firmware issues.
Use the Cast option: As a temporary workaround, open the RadioApp mobile app on your phone and use the Cast feature to stream directly to your Google Nest devices. This method often bypasses the firmware issue affecting direct voice commands.
