Hi @All

Is the Animal of the Day ending at the end of Nov 23??

It's a fun function we access as a family and don't know why these prerecorded are ending.

Anyone know how we can log we want to keep this feature??

Thanks

Hello SRS,

Thanks for reaching out. As we continue to make Google Assistant even more helpful, we're prioritizing the most popular features people love. As a result, Animal of the Day will no longer be supported starting November 27. You can still ask Google Assistant questions about their favorite animals like "Hey Google, where does a fox live?"

Cheers,

Muddi

Can you share the list of other features that you are prioritizing then?

It seems the assistant has slowly been “deprioritizing” fun and engaging features for families lately and it would be nice to what else is taking its place.

To be fair, it might be fun newer features we haven’t heard of but the assistant no longer does suggestions like it used to.

It's prioritizing watching everything you do, that's why.

This is stupid.  Bring it back!!!!

This is disappointing as it is one of the only things we really enjoy about our device. It will definitely factor into to us switching to something else when the time comes.

We are both in our 60”s.  Animal of the day is part of our nighttime ritual.  We’ll miss it.  Please reconsider this change.

Are you able to explain what those more popular features are, by chance? We have lost so many games over the few years we’ve had our Google. Alexa still has animal of the day, and in fact, has prioritized its kid/family friendly activities.  Unless there is some big roll out in 2024, I truly do not see how Google feels it is keeping up in value. If we do not see improvement of these, we will be making the switch from doorbell to cameras to speakers.  It is such a tremendous disappointment.

animal of the day is part of my morning routine. first removal of games, now this? seriously, might aswell get rid of any fun features.

This is a terrible descision.  The nest options and features have been slowly declining. My children were so disappointed by this decision

It was a wonderful part of my kids morning routine! Any suggestions for some similar content?

Very disappointing- this was our most used feature after setting timers and asking the weather. Out 2 kids were super bummed.

Why do they keep taking everything fun away that my kids love? First it was the bedtime song and now this? It couldn't have been that hard to keep these. Every few months it just gets worse and worse and stops being able to do the stuff we used it for. They made a 4 year old and 1 year old cry with this decision. I'm sure that probably brings them satisfaction though. Pretty sad.

Lame answer

How is removing features a priority? Get a grip and answer the questions or are you AI like all the other "experts"? Prove you are a human being by actually answering the questions people ask instead of reading from scripts.

We loved animal of the day! I guess Google is a fun hating fart that wants dumb kids. Bring it back!!!!

We feel like Google keeps getting rid of all the fun things we enjoyed doing and not replacing them with anything. This isn’t a post to be negative about it, simply voicing our hope that Google sees these and pays attention to its customers. We’ve started looking into Alexa products as Google does not seem to be keeping up in value in our opinion.

How does this entire thread not count as feedback?

I just found out this morning that animal of the day no longer exists and i am distraught.

I had both of my children in tears last night when they found out animal of the day was ending. They said. "It was my favorite thing about her".

We just don’t know why we can’t just pick 365 of them & yearly repeat them… or, every two years…. There is something so great about ‘okay google, what’s the animal of the day?’ & then doing our own research or trying to make a drawing or craft related…. It’s such a great prompt (or, mood switch! lol) for our family

Sundar Pichai, where are you and why are these decisions being made, makes no sense.

Animal of the Day was a wonderful feature and my daughter misses it. She keeps asking our device if it's been brought back yet. I liked that we could do this quick little learning activity every day. There should be more of that kind of thing not less. Why on earth would you scrap it?

Not an answer

We appreciate that everyone loves this feature and its great fun for your family. However we are killing it and it's tough, no explanation will be given either, so FU.

Thanks Google, that's so kind of you. I'd imagine the team for animal of the day runs into thousands of members of staff huh? Literally zero maintenance, stop being such bullies it's unnecessary.

My 4 year old girl is very sad and said “it’s making me cry” when I told her this feature was leaving.  I’ll def leave feedback in the settings of the app.

My 6 year old literally cried so hard when we found out that it was going away. I don’t know how these programs/systems work—but it seems like a small program that brings immense joy. Please keep it! We check every morning at breakfast.

Same here. I have three- 4 year olds that are devastated that this feature is going away! As others said, it was a great tool to help switch everyones moods and redirect. I hope to see a replacement.

Just adding my voice to the disappointment. I understand if it's not a popular feature, but could we maybe get linked a bunch of other features that would also be enjoyable that have no plans of being discontinued?

My toddler will be very bummed. It added a fun thing to do to our morning routine. C'mon Google, it can't take up that much time or memory to keep it!

I am very dissapointed that Google Nest is getting rid of Animal of the Day. My daughter and I love asking Google about the animal of the day, we always learn something new and it is a great opportunity to connect as a family.

Both my kids were extremely upset, come on Google don't be mean!
