Animal of the day command no longer working properly

akaPapaGlenn

The command for animal of the day has begun responding with a snippet of information about a quail’s head plume. It is the same every time the command is given. Started doing this a couple of weeks ago. It is the same on all our nest mini speakers (4), WiFi points (2) and nest hub.

Hi akaPapaGlenn,

Thanks for posting and I’m sorry to hear you’re having some concerns with one of our great features: asking Google the animal of the day. Could you please tell us the exact command that you have tried? Usually it changes the animal featured on each day ― it would really help us if you can confirm that each day, it doesn’t change the featured animal.

Let us now try to refresh the connection between all your devices by doing a sequential reboot. Unplug the power cord of your router followed by your Nest speakers. Restarting your phone might also help.

Tell me how it goes.

Best,

Dan

Hi Dan,
Command is: “Hey Google, what’s the animal of the day?” Same as it has been all year.
It’s been part of our “Good Night” routine. Recently, it started giving the same response every night (same info about California quail from the same website each time) without the intro jingle that used to play. I’ve reset everything as you recommended (router, points, hub, speakers, iPhone & iPad) and it is still the same. “What’s the animal of the day?” results in a bit of info on the quail’s head feathers.

Hi akaPapaGlenn,

Thanks for the additional info. Could you please provide the cast firmware version of your Google Nest speakers?

To check which firmware version you're on, follow these steps:

  1. Open the Google Home app Google Home app.
  2. Touch and hold your device's tile.
  3. Tap Settings and then Device information.
  4. Under "Technical information," check for Cast firmware: "X.XXX.XXXXX." If the device is on Fuchsia, check for System firmware version: "X.XXXXXXXX.X.XXXXXXX"

Looking forward to your response.

Best,

Princess
