Animal of the day command no longer working

For some reason the animal of the day command on my google home is no longer working. It’s says it doesn’t know, and brings up a search. I haven’t changed anything and my web activity is on. Any help to fix this?

Same for us, it stopped working for us when we tried it today (we last tried it a month ago)

Hello everyone,

Sorry for the late response. I know how it feels when something is not working on your Google Home/Nest devices. Let's try to get to the bottom of this. A few questions: what is the specific command that you're saying? What country are you located in? What specific Google Home/Nest device do you have? Do you have the same issue when asking the Google Assistant app on your phone?

For those users who haven't reset their device, please do so and see if it still has the same behavior. Please follow the steps in this guide on how to factory reset Google Nest or Home speakers or displays.

Cheers,

Muddi

I have already performed the factory reset and the same thing. I also have the same issue with the google assistant app on my phone. Located in Canada. Command I use is “Hey Google, what’s the animal of the day?”. And it is the Google nest hub

I'm also in Canada, with the Nest Mini.  I've never asked my Google Assisstant app on my phone before, but it just searches for the phrase, "what is the animal of the day".

Also, rather than reset my device (which sounds like a dubious solution for what seems like a server issue), I powered on my Nest Hub (which hasn't been powered on for 6 months), and it also is incapable of recognizing "what is the animal of the day" as a special function of the Nest speaker.

Hi folks,

We appreciate your efforts. Since we're not able to replicate the issue on our devices, the next best thing to do is to send feedback so we can check what's going on with your devices. Please say, "Hey Google, send feedback," followed by a brief description of the issue. Make sure to replicate the issue first before sending feedback. Also, turn on device usage and send crash reports to Google. To know more about how to send feedback, follow the steps on this page: Share feedback about Google Nest

Let me us know once done.

Cheers,

Muddi

I did share feedback with my Google nest. I forgot to inform you that I did. I never heard if anything was done on your end, but I tried it the other day and it is working again.

Hey LFox,

Sorry for the delays. I'm glad to know that it's now working. Sending feedback about the issue is helpful for the team to check and fix the issue.

@ShinyPurpleFish: How's your device? If you still have the same issues, please try rebooting your device to refresh all the settings. Feel free to update the thread if you still need help.

Cheers,

Muddi

Hi Muddi

This looks to be working now on the pixel tablet too.

Not sure what resolved it, the tablet recently updated to Android 14

I also performed a hard reset, and it doesn’t seem to be working on any speakers and google assistant.

I've just tried it on my pixel tablet in hub mode, and it responds with 'I don't know but here's some search answers that might help'

It's running build: TQ3A.230901.001.B1
