My google home quit doing animal of the day. It no longer plays the music or tells me a new animal.

Hi Sammyb116,

Thanks for posting here in the Google Nest Community.

I’m sorry to hear you’re having trouble with this. No worries; we'll check this out. A few things: Which Nest speaker or display are we working with? When did your issue begin? What message are you getting from your Nest speaker or display when you ask for the animal of the day or try to play music? What commands are you using to try those features? What steps have you taken to fix these issues?

You can try to do a sequential reboot. First, unplug your Nest speaker or display for 30 seconds, then do the same thing to your Wi-Fi router to refresh both devices and your Wi-Fi signal.

I look forward to your response.

Regards,

Juni

Hi!

We are using a google home device and 2 google minis and the animal of the day doesn't work on any of them. The issue began a few months ago, everything else works fine but the animal of the day stopped working.

When we ask what the animal of the day is, the device just searches the internet for a random animal. It doesn't plan the animal of the day song or change animals each day anymore. We ask, "he google, what's the animal of the day?"

We already did a reboot by unplugging and plugging back in. then we also did a hard re-set by holding the button on the back of the speaker down.

Hi Sammyb116,

Thanks for the details  you shared, and sorry that you are still experiencing the issue. Could you check the command that was acknowledged by your Google Assistant in the My Activity area of the Google Home app? To find out how to access that setting, look at the steps below. Could you also try the Google Assistant on your phone to help narrow down the problem and see if you receive the same result?

Check your Google Assistant activity history:

  1. Open the Google Home app .
  2. At the top right, tap your account.
  3. Tap My Activity .

Keep me posted.

Thanks,

Juni

Hi,

My Google home app on my phone also did not tell me the animal of the day (it tells me about the California Quail every time/day I ask). I had my Google Activity turned off to not save. Once I turned activity tracking back on, the animal of the day worked!

So in order for the animal of the day to work I have to have My Web and App Activity on?

Hi Sammyb116

That’s great to hear! Yes we need to enable Web and App Activity so you may get more personalized experiences, like faster searches and more helpful app and content recommendations.

Let us know if you have additional questions, otherwise; I'll lock the thread after 24 hours.

Thanks,

Juni
