Asking Nest Audio, Home and Nest mini 2 to 'stream radio 1 on <chromecast name>' has stopped working

I have multiple google smart speakers around the house and multiple chromecast devices linked to proper speakers.

I've been away for a week and this morning, when saying my usual command to the Nest Mini:
hey google, stream radio 1 on office
Where 'office' is the name assigned to the chromecast device linked to some desktop speakers.
All I get from the Nest mini in the office is:
I think you want play radio, is this correct?
If I say yes, radio 1 is played on the Nest mini in the office and not the chromecast like it always has done.
If I say no, then obviously it plays nothing.

I've tested this using the same command to other chromecast connected speakers:
hey google, stream radio 1 on living room speaker
But the same response is given and if I say 'yes', it will only play on the device that heard the command.

I tested the same commands on the newest Google Nest Audio speaker in the kitchen:
hey google, stream radio 1 on office
But again, the command fails to initiate streaming to the chromecast device.

If I open the BBC Sounds app on my phone, I can start the stream on my phone then press the 'cast' button and send the stream to the chromecast device called 'office' and this works OK.

Further testing shows that, if I try and stream audio on another Google home device then that also fails with the same issues. For example, saying this to the office Nest mini:
hey google, stream radio 1 on kitchen speaker
Where kitchen is a fairly new Google Nest Audio.
It just says:
I think you want play radio, is this correct?
Yes = plays on Nest mini in the office, No = nothing played.

Similar issue is happening with Spotify, I used to be able to say:
hey google, play my spotify playlist general mix on office
Now the response I get is:
  Sorry, I dont understand.
If I say:
hey google, play my spotify playlist general mix
Then the playlist IS played, but on the home mini of course, where the audio quality is **bleep**e.

The issue appears to be that the commands to send audio streams to other devices has stopped working.

I say, hey google stream radio one on office
and it send the stream to the chromecast, just like it used to.

They have pushed firmware to disable any multi speaker action or activity including groups.

it won’t even let you direct to play from one speaker to output on another…they are all dumb individual devices now.

Here’s why..

Well that sucks!

Thanks for the link.

This isn't related to the issue - the piece of news you linked is a year old now, and there was a brief period when speaker group volume and such didn't work directly from Android as a result of this. Moreover, the "play music on speaker X" action fails even when targeting a single speaker. Focus on what you read instead of posting the same link everywhere.
