Automatic Bluetooth connection between google tv and nest audio speakers

Laurenttremblay

I have a pair of Google Nest Audio speakers that I bought in July 2024. I paired them in stereo mode and successfully connected them to my Google TV. However, whenever I stream content using the remote or Chromecast from my phone, the TV starts but doesn’t automatically connect to my speakers. The default audio is set to HDMI, and I can’t change it. I have to manually connect my speakers each time, which is frustrating. Can you help me resolve this issue?

I have this same problem, and it happens while using a Google Nest Audio alone or a pair of Google Nest Audio.

But weirdly when I pair my Google Nest Hub Max to the Google TV with bluetooth it does not disconnect.

It seems like the Google Nest Audio shutdown bluetooth connections after sometime idle or something weird happens with the bluetooth chip on the Nest Audio.

I'm having this exact same issue! I couldn't seem to figure out any other way to connect my Nest Audio to my Chromecast other than a Bluetooth connection. When I cast music, the connection between the two kicks in automatically but if I am playing something from Chromecast, I have to manually select the Nest Audio speaker to connect.

Also, even though my husband and I are both connected to the Home app and have the same phone (all devices and apps are up to date) I am the only one to receive casting notifications. I got this set up just a few days ago and I'm super frustrated. I reached out to Google support and they couldn't be bothered to help.

Groups have worked for only a few hours so far and now don't seem to work at all again. I feel like I've tried everything 😭

Hi there,

Thanks for reaching out to the community. I'm sorry to hear that you're having inconveniences streaming content from your Chromecast to your Nest Audio. I'd be happy to help.

Since you're unable to get an automatic connection when streaming from the Chromecast, the speakers are currently unavailable for this type of connection using Bluetooth. However, an alternative solution is to try creating a speaker group through the Google Home app. For more information, you can check out this article: Create and manage speaker groups in the Google Home app.

In addition, to better investigate the inconvenience with the Chromecast and the Nest audio connection, I’d like to ask the following:

  • What is the model of your Chromecast device?
  • Have you made any changes to your Wi-Fi network?
  • What troubleshooting steps have you done so far for your Nest Audio?
  • Have you tried any troubleshooting steps on the Chromecast as well? If so, what did you do?

Please keep me posted.

Best regards,

Jenniffer

Do you know why when I connect a Nest Audio or a Pair of Nest Audio with bluetooth to the Chromecast with Google TV it disconnects randomly now and then?

But why if I use my Nest Hub Max the same way as the Nest Audio it doesn't disconnects?

I’m using a hd google tv dongle, did not make any change to my wifi setup and I’ve tried to create a group of speakers but it did not work.

Hi @z00cinco,

Thanks for following up. To continue with the inconvenience with the Bluetooth connection. Since the Nest Audio and the Chromecast with Google TV keep disconnecting, I’d suggest the following steps:

  • Update Software: Ensure you have the latest versions of the Google Home app and your mobile software.
  • Check Nest Audio Firmware: Verify the firmware version of your Nest Audio. Refer to this article for details: Google speaker and display firmware versions and release notes.
  • Check Bluetooth connectivity: try connecting to another device; check if the Bluetooth connection between the Nest Audios disconnects. This helps determine if the issue is specific to the Chromecast.
  • Check Bluetooth settings: Check the Bluetooth settings for both the Nest Audio and your mobile device through the Google Home app. Refer to this article for instructions: Play music on your speaker or display using Bluetooth.
  • Ensure Pairing Mode: Verify that the Bluetooth device is in pairing mode. This is usually done by holding down a pairing button or activating a setting. Also, enable Bluetooth on your Nest Audio using the command "Hey Google, turn on Bluetooth."
  • Clear Pairing History: Remove or "forget" the Bluetooth device from the paired list of all previously paired devices.
  • Re-pair Bluetooth Device:
    • Unpair the Bluetooth device from its current pairing and pair it with your Nest Audio:
      • Open the Google Home app.
      • Tap "Favorites" or "Devices."
      • Select the Nest Audio.
      • Tap "Settings," then "Audio," and then "Default music speaker."
      • Choose "Pair Bluetooth speaker."
      • Select the Bluetooth device you want to pair. then select Done.

Regarding the speaker group situation, @Laurenttremblay, I recommend recreating the speaker group to see if it resolves the inconvenience. Please refer to this thread for updates on speaker group functionality.

Please keep me posted.

Best regards,

Jenniffer
