BBC 4 Extra either silent or plays BBC Radio 4

All of a sudden none of my devies will play BBC radio 4 extra. It either thinks its playing, or plays radio 4. Have a mix of paired Nest Audios and several google minis throughout the house.

Tried rebooting devices, deleting and recreating the routine in google home. All to no avail. I can see there was a similarish issue back in 2021.

Anyone experiencing this now?

Cheers

I'm experiencing something similar since yesterday. My paired 2nd Gen Nest Mini speakers won't play BBC Radio 1, World Service, Virgin radio etc. from the ones I asked for and was able to play regularly before. It plays BBC 5 live but won't switch to aforementioned stations after that. The speaker responds by saying that it is playing, the lights stay on for 3-5 seconds, but plays nothing.

Hi folks,

lidbanger, thanks for reaching out and for the details you’ve shared. A few questions: are you trying to play the radio on a speaker group or individual speakers? Does it happen only when you use the routine feature? Also, are you getting the same experience when you use voice commands to play the radio?

Nadd, thanks for posting. What troubleshooting steps have you taken so far? Does it happen only when you play it on your paired speakers? How about playing the radio to each Google Nest Mini individually? Also, what is the distance between your Wi-Fi router and both your Google Nest Mini?

I look forward to your responses.

Regards,

Juni

Hi Juni,

I have two Nest Mini speakers in a stereo pair.

The issued I've described is with the voice commands. I'm able to cast the audio to the speaker pair from the apps on my phone.

I've not done any troubleshooting other than switching off 1PV6 of my router which I read on another thread that has helped a user with a glitch. My speakers have also been making a glitchy sound (like a needle touching the vinyl on a record player) from time to time. I don't know what else to other than resetting which lidbanger had already done to no avail. I've not changed anything until it started misbehaving so not sure what to check for.

The speakers are less than 10 meters away from the main router, but I've also another one on the outer side of the room in a mesh. They routers are Amazon Eero 6. I also have an Amazon echo dot added as a WiFi extender.

Hi Juni,

Thanks for helping with this really annoying problem!

I've got 2 groups of paired Google Nest speakers and 2 single Google minis - all in different rooms of this rambling the house. The problem exists on all the devices.

There a Fritz Mesh of 4 of these https://en.avm.de/products/mesh-wi-fi/fritzrepeater-3000-ax/ plus a FRITZ!Box 7590 AX where the fiber enters the property.

It's running a routine from Google Home (activated by vopice command) which I set up quite some time ago (2 years + ?) so that it would stop the really irratating habit of announcing "Playing ....." just before it started actually playing.

Bizarely I've just tested it again and it's all started working again - it definately wasn't working yesterday.

Unfathomable as ever - but thanks for your help!

Same here. It's playing all radio stations now.

Lidbanger I want to know the settings to stop the speakers from saying "Playing...” before playing the music.
