BBC sounds

Hi

Looks like BBC radio stations do not work on TuneIn any more, my Google mini will only try and play any BBC radio stations through TuneIn and nothing plays. How can I get BBC sounds to play?

Hi Dan, I have even done a clean install of Sonos (deleted the app and re-added the devices one by one). Nothing works. The problem is only for the combination of Google Home, Sonos, and BBC radio stations. I can ask Home to play any other music source and it will correctly play on Sonos.  Assistant on non-sonos-linked Google devices also triggers BBC Sounds correctly. There is a message here from the product manager of BBC Sounds from a few days ago. ( from Sonos forum )

"Hello,

sorry not to have better news on this issue. We would like to enable Google Assistant to work with BBC Sounds on Sonos, but unfortunately we are not able to (it requires Sonos to do work which is not forthcoming). The Cymru2 stream playing is actually an anomaly itself. We will continue to try to rectify but its not within our control."

Pretty confident there is no consumer-side solution. Looks as if root cause is Sonos, but if they won't fix it, I am sure Google could build a workaround. Is there any input from this forum into the Google product team?

Sorry not replied to this for a while, similar to another user I gave up and am now using an echo dot with my Sonos.

This is definitely a Sonos issue.  The Sonos speaker tries to stream from tunein which wont work as tunein no longer streams BBC radio in the UK.  Unfortunately sonos support just tell me my speaker isnt compatible in order to avoid taking ownership of the problem.  Alexa also has exactly the same problem.  The only work around is to group a sonos speaker to a dot which is very inflexible.

Hi folks,

Apologies for the delayed response. We wanted to know about the update from Sonos? How is it? By the way, while waiting for Sonos, you can play music and radio when you connect your Sonos device to your phone via Bluetooth. That way, you will not miss any of your daily dose of "little satisfaction" that you get from your favorite stations. Try it out.

Cheers,

Dan
