Best Hub Max Reconfiguration

Jes0427

I wanted to change the WiFi on my nest hub max. Reset to factory settings and working through the process of setting it up new. Displays the message : the previous owner must delete the device from his account. I am the previous owner and don’t see any option on any of the menus to delete the hub from the account. Very frustrating- any suggestions on how to resolve?

@Jes0427

Google Nest does not make it easy to change Wi-Fi settings.

Generally, the process required is to remove the Google Nest devices from the Google Nest app or the Google Home app while still on your old Wi-Fi network, THEN do a factory reset, and then reinstall the device while on the new Wi-Fi network.

If you miss the first step, you can end up in the predicament you're in. When Google Nest checks whether the device is attached to an account (and it is, because you didn't remove it), it unfortunately does not check WHOSE account it is attached to.

You may have to contact Support (https://support.google.com/googlenest/gethelp) for assistance to get past Google Nest's restrictions.

Hi folks,

@MplsCustomer, thanks for the help.

@Jes0427, I'm sorry that you're having trouble setting up your Nest Hub Max after doing the factory reset ― let us find the best solution for this. A few questions: when you said a factory reset, would you mind confirming if it's the same steps as what you see in this link?  If yes, then we really appreciate you doing it before posting to narrow things down. It would help a lot if you could do a sequential reboot first:

  1. Unplug the power cord of your router followed by your Nest speakers.
  2. Plug them back in after 3 minutes tops.
  3. Restarting your phone might also help.

Once done, let's create a new home structure, factory reset your Nest Hub Max one more time and set it up on the new home you created. Follow the steps below:

  1. Open the Google Home app.
  2. At the top, tap Add.
  3. Tap Create new home.
  4. Follow the steps.

Keep us posted.

Best,

Dan
