Broadcast Suddenly Not Working at All

buddha673
Community Member

Broadcast is not working from any of my home devices or from my phone. I'll say broadcast, it will ask for the message, I'll speak the message and it will then say it doesn't understand, saying "to broadcast on your home devices just tell me the message" and no matter what I say it keeps doing this. On the hub unit it, it will then display "broadcast message" as an option of things it can do but when I select it it still says it doesn't understand. All devices are on the same wifi. Everything seems normal. Very strange.

Hey everyone,

Thanks for bringing this to our attention. It seems like we've been seeing an increase in reports about broadcasting issues on the Google Home and Nest devices. I'd like to dig deeper into this.

  • What country are you located in?
  • Does the same issue happen when you broadcast using the Google Assistant app on your phone?
  • What is the firmware version of your devices?

For the team to investigate further, please send feedback on your devices by saying, "Hey Google, send feedback," followed by the keywords: "Broadcast not working." Make sure to replicate the issue first before sending feedback, and turn on device usage and crash reports by following the steps on this link.

Let me know once done.

Cheers,

Muddi

Same issue for me and happens from hubs, home minis, and Pixel devices the same.  Broadcast is completely broken.

Hi everyone,

Thanks for posting in the Community.

Apologies for this. There's an ongoing discussion related to this. I'll move this conversation to the main thread for updates regarding this.

We appreciate your understanding.

Google Home App and Google Assistant are no longer able to broadcast, Why? This is one of the most important features to my wife and I. Every time Google performs an update I lose a feature, very frustrating and there’s no longer a customer service number so you can’t talk to anybody…

@Timtime

Curious. We can still broadcast from the Google Home app and from one of our Nest Hubs.  We are in the U.S.

I am also encountering this issue since yesterday (apac region). Broadcast link is available on my iPhone, but it doesn't broadcast, it asks me to say a message but then doesn't broadcast. Another Android Phone even don't have Broadcast option. Indeed frustrating.

I'm getting the same thing when trying to broadcast. I now get...

" To broadcast on your home devices, just tell me the message"  .... followed by....
" I'm sorry I don't understand"

After doing some tests, it seems it is account related, as other family members (on my family plan) can still broadcast...
I can also "reply" to broadcasts they send. I just can't broadcast myself. Could this be something to do with voice recognition or the personal results setting?
Please help Google/Nest

Please provide a hyperlink to the "Recommended Answer" as it is not on this message board.

For some strange reason, google is not understanding my message when I want to broadcast. It was able to do this pretty well up until today. Any ideas anyone? I have tried on multiple speakers... Very frustrating... Quality of the assistant has decreased considerably this past year.

No longer understanding basic commands: set an alarm for, set timer for, ...

No longer stops an alarm by saying "stop"

No longer supporting several languages as efficiently as before it seems...

Very disapointing

I'm getting the same thing when trying to broadcast. I found a post saying it's a bug and you could change your language to another English (eg English us or English Canada) I did this and it worked for about a day. It seems to be something to do with my user as other family member are fine.

Same issue from Belgium. Google Nest will not broadcast anymore. Tried in french or in English. It will just ask to repeat what the message was...

Is anyone else having broadcasting issues with their devices? I've already restarted them but today when I said "Hey Google, broadcast dinner time", My Nest Hubs and Hub Maxes displayed "Dinner Time" on the screens with animations, but no sound. I checked the volume on them and they're all turned up about half way so should have sound.

Hi jmallentn,

This is not the experience we want you to have; let us help you. A few questions: aside from your Nest Hub Max, which Nest speakers are we working with? Is it a Nest Hub or Nest Hub (2nd Gen)? When did your issue begin? Were there any recent changes made? Are your devices

It would help a lot if you could do a sequential reboot first:

  1. Unplug the power cord of your router, followed by your Nest speakers.
  2. Plug them back in after 3 minutes.
  3. Restarting your phone might also help.
  4. Make sure all devices are on the same Wi-Fi network.
  5. Make sure they're signed in to the same Google Account(s) as the originating device.

For more information about broadcasting, see this helpful guide: Broadcast voice messages to Google Nest or Home devices.

Keep us posted.

Best,

Dan

Same issue here. Reset all Google's. Restarted router.

Going to try setting up a new home when I have time.

I'm having the same problem as you. We never had an issue and now all of a sudden it won't work as of like 4 days ago. I can't broadcast using my phone, the hub, or the little google home speakers. It first started with me, but now my husband's is not working.

Our issue with the Google broadcasting appears to be resolved. Yesterday, we provided feedback through the Google Home app yesterday.

(For the record and engineers, I'm in the UK and all my devices are set to UK English.)

Hello Ladies and Gentlemen,
I think I have figured out a workaround.
Rather that issuing the command "Broadcast" and waiting for the response "what's the message" try this instead.
Issue the command broadcast and immediately speak your message. Like this:

"OK Google Broadcast, Children come down for dinner"

This seems to work for me. Good Luck Everyone 😄

Having exactly the same problem on all our devices. My partner as well. Our youngster's is working just fine though in the same household. Driving us nuts.

  • Does the same issue happen when you broadcast using the Google Assistant app on your phone? - Yes
  • What is the firmware version of your devices?
    • Google Nest Mini - 356012
    • Google Nest Hub - 11.20230306.3.134

We have a Google Home and 2 minis. They've all worked perfectly up until about a week ago. Now they won't broadcast at all. Google just says it "doesn't understand".

I've been through troubleshooting. They're all on the same network. I've uninstalled and reinstalled. Do not disturb is off. I've changed their names. It's still not working. Any ideas?!

@KayBee2

Other customers are also reporting broadcast problems.  See this combined thread with 55 replies:

A few days ago Broadcast started working just like the old days. Whoever fixed this deserves a lot of thanks.

If it is still not working for you, I am afraid I have no advice. I didn't do anything. It just started working again.

Thanks,

Alan

About 2 days ago my Nest Hub stopped allowing me to broadcast. When it says "What's the message" I say the message, the screen shows my message on screen but it responds with "To broadcast a message just say the message".

No matter what I do this is the response and it does not broadcast. Has always worked until now.

All devices are on the same wifi network, I even factory reset the device, let it update, and tried again with the same results.

Additionally now all of my home mini speakers are acting the same way.

What do I do?

I'm realizing this is also happening on my phone as I use to be able to broadcast to all my home devices from my job on mobile data. Broadcast seems to be broken everywhere

Please forgive me if his has already been addressed elsewhere, but I've not been able to find a solution (or explanation) to this anywhere.

Anyway, I use the Nest's built in "Broadcast" feature a lot in my house -- both for room-to-room and general broadcasts. It's a wonderful feature! When we first started using this feature, any device receiving the broadcast message would first play a two-tone alert chime prior to playing whatever message was being broadcast. Then, starting several weeks ago, they all stopped doing that. I'm assuming it's due to a firmware update, but I'm not certain of that. In any case, it was a really nice feature as it got the attention of whoever was nearby to alert them that a broadcast was coming in and that they needed to pause the TV, game, music, or whatever, and start listening to the message.

Does anyone know of any way to turn that back on? My family and I really miss it!

Thanks in advance.

We are having the same issue. Broadcast is a huge feature for us. The tones are gone and sometimes the messages don’t go thru.
