Broadcast delay across speakers

Pmcd
Community Member

I have alot of speakers, Google and Nest, speakers and screen, and for years broadcasts were fine.

The last couple of years, it's almost impossible to hear a broadcast because it plays at either completely different times or just a second or so out of sync. So you have 5 or 6 on a floor talling to you at one.

When I play music on a group, they all syn fine as one huge speaker.

Why can't broadcast send an ultrasonic sync sound before talking g so it's all at once?

It used to work. What changed?

Hi Pmcd,

Thanks for posting in the community — let's dig deeper into it. How far are the Google Nest speakers from each other? Are they connected to the 2.4ghz? For us to isolate more of the issue, could you move  two Google Home devices near the router. Then try to broadcast and see if there is still delay? Keep me posted.

Hi,

10 speakers (two displays) mixture of generations, using 5 and 2.4 as they need (single ssid) each floor speakers are no more than 5m apart.

Music is perfectly in sync with no manual delay set

Broadcasts used to work well, but Google tend to 'develop' alot and nothing stays untouched for long.

The speakers have always been in the same place and the network equipment hasn't changed so I don't think moving them close to the router is needed... there are 3 within 3m of the router already.

Hi Pmcd,

Thanks for the details you've shared. I get your point and that makes sense. Let's go ahead and try unplugging the router instead, that way we can refresh its network settings. Unplug the router for at least 20 minutes and plug it back in. As soon as it's plugged in, try broadcasting again and see if we will experience the same thing.

Let us know how it goes.

Best,

Princess

Hi Pmcd,

Thanks for coming back to us. Could you tell us how long the delay is? Also, please share a video showing the issue so we can further check what's going on with your devices.

Cheers,

Ok I'll try and sort out a video.

If I say something like “hey google, broadcast this is a test message”

It'll say “ok, broadcasting now”

Then a couple of speakers might simultaneously play that recording, another a half second after, perhaps one after the others have finished,

They are no longer in sync.

So when it's a longer message, you have this situation where it's like people all over the house shouting at you and you can't understand any of it!

Never used to be like this.

Playing music to all speakers via the “home” group I created is perfectly sync’d

The solution is for the devices to do whatever they do for music, e.g. All listen for that bleep and sync up, then play the message.

Hi Pmcd,

Could you try setting up 2 of your devices on a mobile hotspot to check if you will experience delays when broadcasting. This is for us to further isolate the issue. Please note that you will need two mobile devices for this setup (one will serve as a router and the other to be used to set up your speaker).

Keep us posted.

Hey Pmcd,

Have you had the chance to try the steps above?

No sorry, and it's unlikely I'll get the time. Google just need to do some testing themselves and push an update. Thanks for trying to help.

Hi Pmcd,

I totally understand that troubleshooting can be frustrating, but these are the most helpful steps to figure out what's going on with your device. Let's give them a try!
