Can't add or edit speaker group from Google Home, but can see everything in Spotify

Hello!

I have a Google Home Display, Google Speaker and 4 google minis (2 of which I just hooked up).

I was able to connect to all of the devices.  I am able to see all of these devices individually in Google Home and on Spotify.

I had existing groups created for a different mix of these devices, all of which I can see and access via Spotify.  I wanted to add the two new mini's to an existing group.

I cannot, see any of the devices under groups in the Google Home app.  When I click into groups to manage existing, nothing is there.  When I click to create a new speaker group, it says no devices found.

I do have one Wi-Fi, but also a Wi-Fi extender so i guess there are two.  I am wondering if some devices are connected to one and not the other, but shouldn't i see some of them??? I see nothing.

It's just weird that I can see and access them from Spotify and can seem them individually in the google home app, but they are missing from speaker groups.

Any ideas?

Thank you!

recently suffered issue with a Speaker pair ( 9 nest mini's in my home), " I can not connect to the other speaker in the pair" looks to be a Group setting, worked it out, ensure 5Ghz is the primary connection( shut off 2.4 whilst you build pairs) and then not to add stereo pairs to any groups until they are a paired, if you see they are then added to other Groups without you adding it to those groups, delete that group and start fresh. living the dream now

Thanks for the quick reply!

I can't see any groups within the google home app.  Even my existing ones...there not even there to delete.

What does 5Ghz mean?  I am not following that....

your Router, will have a 2.4 and 5ghz connection. take a look and disable the 2.4 when you rest your pairs so they only get on the 5 and not the 2.4 frequency band.

what router do you have I might be able to help, albeit you might need the 2.4 for other devices bulbs older devices but you can turn it back on after the setup.

also ensure you have only one home you might be adding to another home.

Oh I'm excited to learn here!  Thank you for your help.

It's a tp-link router.

I just checked, all apps are up to date.

From the web:

To disable 2.4 GHz on a TP-Link router, you can use the router's web interface to uncheck the 2.4 GHz wireless radio.

Steps

  1. Open a browser and go to tplinkwifi.net
  2. Log in to the router configuration page
  3. Select the Basic tab
  4. Select the Wireless menu
  5. Uncheck the Enable Wireless Radio box for 2.4 GHz
  6. Click Save
You can also disable the wireless function for a specific band by going to Settings > Wireless > Extended Network. Then, clear the Enable checkbox for the band you want to disable.

also if you are able to set 2 different passwords for 2.4 and 5 do that so you can connect the mini's to the 5

Can't seem to login 😞 I've tried the password on the bottom of the router.  It's not working.

From what I'm reading I could reset the router to restore original settings, but I'm worried that will take my internet down or something and I won't be able to contact my provider to restore or troubleshoot until tomorrow.

Do you know if resetting will harm anything?  I might need to wait until tomorrow 😞

Dont do that. will be info on the router, 2 secs ill look see if ther is a default admin password or you have to enter whats on a sticker

try admin and admin as pwd

Tried "admin", no luck

Also tried to log in with TP-Link ID using "admin" as the user ID, but it needs to be an email address format

Thanks - I've tried the password on the bottom and it's not working - only have 3 tries left before it locks me out 😞

did you admin and admin?

Yes, admin didn't work.

Bugger!, SO SORRY WHEN YOU GET INTO IT YOU CAN MOVE FORWARD, can you get other help with the access to router?

Yes, I will reach out to my provider to see if they can help.

Thank you so much for your time and assistance!  I'll come back with an update later this weekend.

Happy Friday!!!

and to you, Night ( im in the UK, unsure where you are 🙂 )

Ill keep an eye out tomorrow as soon as I have finished work 15 hrs time I expect.

Thanks

Heather

deselect the 2.4 network wifi and have only 5ghz set then trash Mini's to factory ( mic off and press and hold) you are about to reset messages , bleer rum bum sound, reset speaker. let them boot and add to home make them have a left and right name you might have to go back to give them new names or run with it as they are the goto audio setting on home app and make them a stereo pair, then the lovley pairing sound :0

then add to a group ( try a new name)
