Can't change timezone

Cptkill21

As my post says I can't get the timezone correct. I'm in Arizona and on the border of Nevada.  Due to daylight savings time not taking place in Arizona my Google nest hub 2nd gen now has the wrong time zone.  It's address is set to my home address and every other device allocated to my home has the correct time zone. Can't find a way to fix this.  Google why don't you just give us a *bleep* option to manually set the timezone, such an easy fix

I've seen posts like yours for years in this forum. It seems Google Nest uses a worldwide database that assigns timezones to every address, but that database has some errors and glitches.

Judging from the other posts I've seen, Google Nest largely seems to refuse to acknowledge the issue at all, or tells customers to contact Google Maps, which also does not seem to acknowledge the issue.

I don't know why Google Nest does not let us set our own timezone.

You could try contacting Support:

1. Go to https://support.google.com/googlenest/gethelp.
2. Select a category/product family, and type in a brief description of the issue, then click "Next".
3. Click "Other", then click "Next step".
4. Under "Resources", just click "Next step". (Clicking one of the listed links will bring up a Help page page.)
5. Under "Contact options", choose to get a phone call or chat with the team, depending on availability in your country.

Unfortunately I've tried that option already. They had me do the basic troubleshooting steps for idiots: remove and re-add the device, create a new home for the device, factory reset the device.... no actual help just the standard stuff everyone already knows to try

That's too bad. Some of the responses I've seen from Google Nest in this forum seem to refuse to even understand the problem--that Google Nest assigns a timezone to every address on the planet, and the database they use for this has errors.  (There was an instance when a whole area of Mexico changed timezones, and Google Nest finally fixed the problem.)

A couple of times, when customers have indicated their whole town has the wrong timezone and have posted their town, I have tried googling the timezone for their town, and have gotten the same erroneous timezone, so the problem is with Google.

Yeah it's just mind boggling that a tech company as large as Google could even have such a simple error. I mean just give us the option to choose our own time zone and bam problem solved

Hi Cptkill21,

Thank you for posting in the community.

I understand your frustration with the incorrect time zone on your Google Nest Hub 2nd Gen. As you've correctly pointed out, Arizona doesn't observe Daylight Saving Time. This can cause discrepancies in time zone settings for devices, especially those that rely on automatic time zone adjustments.

Unfortunately, there isn't a direct manual time zone setting available for the Nest Hub 2nd Gen. This is because the device is designed to automatically adjust its time zone based on your location settings and network connection.

Please consider sharing your thoughts directly with our development team through this feedback form. Your input will help us prioritize features and ensure that we're meeting the needs of our diverse user base.

Feel free to keep us posting if you have more questions.

Best regards,

Kevin
