Can’t link family and friends photo album

GIvins

With displaying photos on nest hub max, when I select family and friends in the app, I get the response “can’t create album, sign in to the google photos app …” I am signed in to the google photos app and google nest hub with the same google account. I don’t know how to fix this. Any suggestions would be appreciated

Hi GIvins,

Thanks for posting and letting us know about your photo frame concern. I know how it feels when something isn’t working as it should. A few questions: when did it begin? Were there any recent changes made? Are you using Android or an iPhone? Is the Google Home app updated? Also, what troubleshooting steps have you taken so far?

You can relink the Google Home app and observe if it makes a difference. You can also refresh your devices and observe if it makes a difference. First, reboot your Wi-Fi router, and once the network is back up, do the same thing to your Google Nest Hub Max.

Regards,

Juni

I have tried and still get the exact same error the OP gave, it's like this service is crippled and we cannot see any of our family and friends at all. Please resolve, it's extremely frustrating.

Hello ericgtr12,

To confirm, do you already have an album created under the "Family and Friends" section? If not, I suggest creating an album first using the Google Photos app. After creating the album, check to see if you still encounter the same issues when viewing it on the Nest Hub.

Cheers,

Muddi

I have the same problem. Neither my husband or I can access from our own devices/accounts. We have many albums, years worth. Creating a new one changes nothing. Rebooting our Google mesh network changes nothing. Rebooting the Google display changes nothing. Rebooting our mobile devices after logging out then logging back in changes nothing. Something is broken here.

a note: selecting any other album (including recent highlights or favorites) seems to work fine, the issue is specifically with the option “select family and friends”.

I'm having the same issue as OP.  I used to be able to tap "Select family & friends" under the Photo Frame options on my Google Nest Hub (Google Home app on ios 17), but now it jumps to the Google Photos app, jumps back to the Google Home app, and says "Can't create album.  Sign in to the Google Photos app as [redacted] then try again".  This used to let me select which family and friends I wanted to show.

Same issue as OP, seems like a recent issue for family and friends that did not happen before. Please check the latest code or revert to earlier branch as it is frustrating

Same issue. Reset hub to switch photo accounts and get this error even though I’m logged in with the correct account.

Still just ignoring this issue?

I am having the exact same issue. If you click create a new album by selecting family and friends, it says backup needs to complete and make sure I'm signed in, but I am signed in and backup is complete... nothing works..

Still a problem for me. I believe it’s because my “Select Family and Friends” album hit the 20k limit. That seems to be the error. Problem is, that’s my albums of my kids. So I guess I just can’t use my kids for an album anymore?

I’m ready to throw all of my Google devices in the garbage. Already moved to Apple. Getting ready to jump ship completely and de-Google my life. They just don’t care.
