Home Assistant dashboard cast fails frequently after latest Google Home (possibly cast firmware) update. Used to work every time, without a flaw, before that.

Hi GSD,
Thanks for visiting the Community.
Could you please tell us exactly what happened with your Google Assistant on your Google Nest speakers? Aside from casting, do you experience any issues on it?
We'd love to know more about it so we can start some steps that might resolve this.
Best,
Princess

Hi,
I have the Google Nest Hub 2nd gen display integrated into Home Assistant through the Google Cast integration, and some automations that cast a couple of my dashboards through the Home Assistant native cast service. This was working great before the Google Home App latest update and redesign. I also have reasons to believe that the cast firmware was updated as well at the same time with the Google Home app, but I’m not quite sure how to check that. Since then the cast service has trouble connecting to the display and most of the times the dashboards are not being rendered. Sometimes I get a white screen, sometimes It freezes in the splash screen, saying connected, but nothing else happens. Otherwise I can’t say I experience any other issues with the display, so I’m betting that the cast firmware is causing this issue.
Thanks.

Hi,
It seems that the problem was solved somehow. I don’t really know what happened. Perhaps an update!?

Hi there,
Awesome — glad to hear that the issue is fixed. It looks like I can consider this one complete, so I will lock the thread in 24 hours unless I can help out with anything else.

Sorry… the miracle lasted for just a couple of days, the issue is back now… even more, the Google Assistant is generally unresponsive, a restart seems to resolve this issue, just for a while.

Hi GSD,
Got it. A factory reset will reset your Google Nest Hub (2nd gen) to its default factory settings. Try it, and then observe if this will make a difference.
Check out this link for more information about it.

Juni

Hi,
Don’t know what to say, now it seems to be working fine once again, with no errors, although i didn’t do anything… i don’t understand it’s behavior, but i guess you can close the thread.
Thanks.
