Changing Speaker Name Instructions Don't Work

DannyKK

Following the instructions to change the name of my mini speaker don't work. While the setting shows the new name, Google Home shows the old name and Assistant doesn't recognize the new Device name. Anyone have an idea how to fix that?

Hi DannyKK,

Let’s get this sorted out. Have you already uninstalled and reinstalled the Google Home app? Give it a try if not. If it still shows the old name after reinstalling the app, try doing the steps below:

  • Create a new home.
  • Go back to the original home > Devices > Tap your Google Nest Mini device > Settings > Device information > Home. Choose the new home you created, and then follow the on-screen instructions.
  • Rename your Google Nest Mini and see if it works. If it did, move it back to its original home.

Keep us posted.

Regards,
Alex

I have the exact same problem and the proposal to move to a new home (newly created) does not work

I ended up removing the speaker from my "home" and doing a factory reset on the speaker and reinstalling. Creating a new home and moving it didn't work. Thanks

Hey folks,

Chiming in, could you please let us know the version of the Google Home app on your phone, as well as the type of device you're using (Android or iOS)?

Cheers,

Muddi

I am using Android 13 on a Xiaomi Redmi Note 12 with MIUI14

My Google home is 3.10.1.6

The devices I am trying to rename are

1. Nest mini

System firmware version: 375114

Cast firmware: 2.57.375114

Language: Français

Country code: NL

2. Nest mini

System firmware version: 375114
Cast firmware: 2.57.375114
Language: en-GB

Country Code: not shown

I ended up deleting the device from my home and doing a factory reset on it. After reinstalling it has the correct name and Assistant recognizes the new name.

Hello there,

Thanks for the information. To confirm, have you tried a different phone/tablet to check if you'll have the same issue?

Cheers,

Muddi

Yes.  A few different android phones/tablets.

Also one of the nest minis is getting thrown out every few days by a random member of the household.

The form just requests the same info as you see in here.  Don't understand why I need to fill it.  Unless this is a way to brush me off.......
