Chromecast Audio Volume Suddenly Boosted to Maximum

I have a number of speaker groups set up with my Google Home device, incorporating both Google devices and JBL Playlist WiFi speakers. Lately (within the past week or two), when starting to cast audio from YouTube Music to a speaker group, the volume suddenly goes to 100%—a rude and unpleasant surprise. Normally volume is set in the 30-something-percent range.

I've tried the usual generic solutions like clearing cache and rebooting devices, but the problem persists. Very annoying.

I'm having little luck searching for others who have this problem, and less luck finding prospective solutions. Anyone have any suggestions?

You are not alone.

It's been a bug for at least 7 years
— and, objectively, nobody within the chromecast group cares to remedy this behavior.
