Connecting Google Home Nest Hub won't connect to local network

My mother's Google Home Smart Speaker and Google Home Nest Hub moved with her to an assisted living facility.  When setting up the device in the new location, we can connect to the building WIFI but keep getting the error message: 'Something went wrong.  The speaker may be setup, but we could not communicate with it from your iPhone..  Make sure that you have enabled local network access in your iPhone's privacy settings and try again.'  I have checked all the settings and Google Home 'always' allows location access.  Also the Local Network has Google Home enabled.  I reset the devices, deleted and reinstalled the app and still having the same issue.

Any other suggestions on how to set this up?  She was using the devices everyday.

Thanks.

Is the WiFi you're connected to, allowing devices to see each other? A guest network for example, isolates each connected item from being able to communicate with each other - only the internet.

I'm not sure.  The community setup the wifi network.  Do you know if there is a way for me to see that in settings on the iPhone?

Hey folks,

Thanks for visiting the Community.

@Biggsyboi, thanks for chiming in.

@tennisduo, Wi-Fi networks on dormitories, hotels, cafe, nursing homes and other establishments are not officially supported by Google Nest speakers, so they may or may not work with this type of network, it is not guaranteed. These type of networks has limitations on what devices can connect to it and also a security risk since this is a public network. However, if you still plan to get it connected, you can reach your local IT or network administrator and let them know that you want to connect your device to that network.

Hope this helps.

Princess
