Connecting Home Mini to Nest Thermostat

RonA
Community Member

I have a Nest Doorbell and a Nest Thermostat (3rd Gen) that are connected to the Nest app on my iPhone. Everything is working as expected. When I attempt to connect a Google Home Mini to the Nest Thermostat, the Google Home app returns a message, "Oops! We’ve encountered an error. Please try again".

*  Yes, the Nest Thermostat has been reset.

* Yes, the Google Home app is the latest version

* Yes, the internet connection is working for all other devices

* Yes, the router and modem have been rebooted

* No, there is no active firewall or any parental control restrictions

* Yes, I have changed my email address from a Yahoo account to a GMail account

* Yes, my wifi signal is running 2.4 Ghz (not 5 Ghz)

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

After migrating my Nest account to a Google account, the Google Home app immediately gained access to the Nest thermostat.

Nowhere have I seen it definitively stated that Google Home requires the Nest account be migrated to a Google account before the Google Home app can connect to the Nest thermostats.  It seems to me if such information were readily available, it might save many users much angst, time and frustration.

Having been posted for four days, I find no replies from technical support, product SMEs or from any community member (so disappointing).  Would anyone be able to advise where I might find a better source for support and information for connecting Home Mini devices?  Thanks!

Hi RonA,

Thanks for bringing this up.

Sorry to hear about this experience. I also appreciate all the details you've shared. Just to verify, is your Google account already migrated to Nest? Let's check if you have tried this steps:

You can only link one Google Account to one Nest Account.

  1. On your mobile device, download the latest version of the Nest app from Google Play.
  2. Check that you have an eligible Google Account.
    1. If you don’t have one, you will need to create a new Google Account.
  3. Open the Nest app Nest app and, if asked, sign in.
  4. Tap Settings Nest settings icon Account verify that you’re signed in with the account you want to migrate.
    1. To migrate a different Nest Account, tap Sign out at the bottom of the screen sign in with the account you want to migrate.
  5. Tap Migrate to a Google Account.
  6. Follow the in-app instructions.

Let me know how it goes.

Best,

Princess

Thank you, Princess, for reaching out.  No, I have not migrated my Nest account to a Google account, although I am using a GMail account to log into Nest.  Just so that I am clear, is migrating my Nest account to a Google account a requirement to make the Home Mini connect to the Nest device?

Hi RonA,

Thanks for the update. I'm so glad that you can now access the Nest thermostat via the Home app. I also appreciate your honest feedback. After all, it is also important that everybody should be informed about this especially when they have Nest devices to link with their speakers. I'll make sure to let the team know about this so we can improve our customer experience.

Let us know if you have additional questions by responding to this, otherwise I'll be locking the thread.

Best,

Princess
