Deactivate orange light on nest audio

janx

Hello,

I am mostly please with the new nest audio I got few days ago. I wanted to use it in the bedroom and I don't want the mic to be activated at night.

Now I can't find the option to switch off the orange LEDs on it.

How am I supposed to sleep with the lights in at night?

Please update the speakers so that the lights can be switched off.

Right now it seems a bit like google forces users to keep the mic on for given reasons. The orange light is imo also in general very annoying (Who would want lights on all the time?).

Thank you!

There isn't a setting to turn this off unfortunately. It's there to confirm the mic is turned off. This is a mostly a user to user community, therefore if this is important to you, I’d encourage you to also send this feedback directly to Google. You will not receive a response, unless Google need more details from you, however the team are still reading the feedback.

Ok, I might send it directly to Google. Thanks!

I'm actually pretty sure google is very aware about this "flaw" and I think they knew very well what they were doing.

They simply don't want anyone to deactivate the mic so they made it as inconvenient as possible to use the no mic function while still being able to boast about the data privacy option.

In the end it is still sad because it ruins the whole product for me and for many others.

I did some research and luckily it seems there are some easy workarounds. The cover can be removed easily and the LEDs can be detached from the cable.

This is what I probably have to do. Otherwise I'd have to send it back.

I hope this mod is easy to do.

Another alternative would be to cover the LED with some electrical tape or similar.
