Device cannot be removed OR unliked

I no longer own this device, and I’ve moved.  cannot unlink, and remove is not an option in the gear settings, because I’m not connected to it  I also can’t do the workaround of moving it to a fake new “home” because the device follows my account around like a lost duckling.  Help me please  IMG_4673.jpeg

Hi ChrisVenice,

Thanks for posting in the community!

I'm sorry to hear that you're having difficulties removing your Google Nest device from your account. Don't worry; I'm here to help! To get started, could you please share the following information:

  • What is the specific model of your Google Nest device?
  • Have you attempted to unlink the device using a different phone or tablet?

In the meantime, we can also try the following steps:

  1. Open the Google Home app.
  2. Tap your photo or initials at the top right.
  3. Tap Assistant settings.
  4. Tap Devices.
  5. Tap the device.
  6. Tap Unlink this device.

If you have more questions for me, feel free to reply to this post. I'll be happy to assist further!

Best regards,

Nery.

Sorry but that doesn’t work either. Please see the screenshot. Yes the problem occurs regardless of interface/device.

Hi ChrisVenice,

Thanks for your quick response!

It seems we’re still experiencing some difficulty. To remove the Google Nest display from your account, please ensure both the device and your phone are connected to the same WiFi network. This is the only way to proceed at this time.

If you have any further questions, please don’t hesitate to reply to this post. I'll be happy to assist you more!

Best regards,

Nery.

I no longer have the device and I have moved and no longer have the same WiFi network. Any other ideas?

 Hey ChrisVenice,

Thank you so much for keeping me updated. I’m sorry to hear that the trouble is still not resolved. Don’t worry; it’s a pleasure to help.

To expedite the assistance, could you please answer the following questions to provide the accurate information?

  • What model of Google device do you have? If you are unsure what device you are using, check out this article: Google Nest speakers and displays
  • When you receive the warning message, it shows when you tap "unlink,” or does it pop up when you access the device settings?

In the meantime, try to perform this workaround.

  •  Try holding down the device title in the Google Home App, and then access the settings wheel from there. and try to remove that device.

Any additional details you can provide will be helpful.

Regards,

Daniel
