Device not visible to play on in automations

I have a speaker that I have set up and it shows up under Devices. I can play music on it if I specifically reference it in a voice command, e.g., “Play WHRO on Living Room Speaker.” But when I set up an automation, the only option to play on is “Device you speak to”, which is  my Nest Hub 2nd generation. How can I get my speaker to be usable in Automations.?

Thanks for posting in the community! I apologize that you're unable to see your Nest speaker when you're trying to set up an automation routine. I'd be happy to help.

To better assist you, I'd like to ask the following:

• What type of speaker device do you have? Here’s a helpful article about how to identify the model of your device.
• What is the firmware version of your Nest device?
• What is the model of your mobile device?
• Is this the first time you're creating an automation, including this speaker?
• During the automation setup, did you receive any error messages?

In the meantime, I'd suggest the following:

• Make sure you have the latest version of the Google Home app and the mobile software version.
• Check that the device is in the same home structure that you're using for the Routine. For reference, you can check out this article: Create and manage Routines for Google Home automations.
