Find my phone will only find my phone is no other phones are home

I have google home setup with no issues on 2 family members phones. Find my phone and assistant work and make calls on google home as long as my phone is the only one at home.

Once another family members phone is home (registered in google home), it stops recognizing my voice and my phone. It obly recognizes the other family members phone.

How do I make my phone the default or solve this issue.

I am the main phone that has nest.

Hi Layaleena,

Thank you for posting here in the community. I apologize for the inconvenience that you are experiencing with your Google Home devices. But no need to worry, help is here.

Before we get started with further details, let me ask you some important questions:

  • What model of device do you have?
  • Does the Google Home Device display any error or messages?

Unfortunately, Google Nest Hub devices can't currently set a default phone for the "Find My Phone" function. It prioritizes ringing the phone closest to the Nest Hub when you say "Hey Google, find my phone" otherwise you will need to register only one phone (the one that you want to use most of the time).

Here are some alternative approaches you can consider:

1. Use Specific Calls:

  • Individual Phone Names: If you have multiple phones with Google Assistant enabled, try calling each phone by its name. For example, "Hey Google, find my Pixel" or "Hey Google, find my Work Phone." This personalizes the search and avoids ringing all phones at once.
  • Nicknames (Optional): Consider assigning nicknames to your phones within the Google Assistant settings on each phone. This allows you to use those nicknames in your voice commands for finding specific phones.

Please check the following article to Find your phone with Google Assistant or to Make calls and broadcast messages on speakers and displays.

Please keep me posted.

Regards,

Mario

I tried to use Hey google find my galaxy s22. It says it is having trouble recognizing my voice. That is only when the other phone is nearby.

Hi Layaleena,

Thank you for following up. I understand your frustration with the Google Home devices to find your phone. This can be frustrating, especially when you need to find your phone quickly. I apologize for the inconvenience you're experiencing.

Advanced Checks:

  • Voice Match Accuracy:
    • Ensure your voice model is properly trained. Go to Google Assistant settings and retrain your voice.
    • Try speaking clearly and directly into the microphone when using the "Hey Google" command.
  • Network Connectivity:
    • A stable internet connection is crucial for device location services. Check your Wi-Fi or mobile data connection.
  • Google Account and Permissions:
    • Verify that you're signed in to the same Google account on both devices and that location permissions are granted for both the Google Assistant and the Find My Device app.
  • Device Compatibility:
    • Ensure your Galaxy S22 is compatible with the "Find My Device" feature and that the necessary services are enabled on the phone.
  • Device Proximity:
    • For accurate location, the phone might need to be within a certain range of your Google Home or Assistant device.
  • Background App Refresh:
    • Ensure the Google app is allowed to run in the background on your phone for uninterrupted voice commands.
  • Restart Devices:
    • Restart your phone and Google Home device to refresh their systems.

Unfortunately, Google Nest Hub devices can't currently set a default phone for the "Find My Phone" function. Please check the following article to Find your phone with Google Assistant.

Let me know how it goes.

Regards,

Mario
