Hi joh083,

Thank you for posting here in the community. I apologize for the inconvenience that you are experiencing with your Google Home devices and Google Pixel phone when using the basic command "OK Google, play music". But no need to worry, help is here.

It seems you're unable to play music on your Google Home devices as you could do it before. Let's see some basic troubleshooting steps:

Basic checks:

  1. Be More Specific: Try providing more specific requests:
    • "Ok Google, play rock music"
    • "Ok Google, play my favorite playlist"
    • "Ok Google, play music from Spotify" (if Spotify is linked)
  2. Check Default Music Service: Ensure YouTube Music is set as your default music service in the Google Home app.
    • Open the Google Home app.
    • Tap on your home or group.
    • Tap "Media & Audio."
    • Under "Default music service," select "YouTube Music."
  3. Device and App Updates: Ensure your Pixel 7, Google Home devices, and YouTube Music app are running the latest software versions. Updates often include bug fixes and improvements.
  4. Restart Devices: Restart your Google Home devices and your phone to refresh the connection.
  5. Google Assistant Settings: Check if there are any specific settings related to music playback in the Google Assistant settings. You might need to adjust preferences or permissions.
  6. Clear Cache and Data: As a last resort, try clearing the cache and data for the Google Home app. This might resolve software-related issues.

Additional Tips:

  1. Try Different Voice Commands: Experiment with various commands to see if Google Assistant responds differently.
  2. Check Internet Connection: A stable internet connection is essential for streaming music.

You can also check the following guide to Listen to music on Google Nest speakers and displays and Link your music services and set your default service.

Let me know how it goes.

Regards,

Mario
