Google Assistant unable to address rooms

dillyhammer

Starting yesterday, I am no longer able to address lights grouped inside a room.

For example, let's say I have "Light One" and "Light Two" and "Light Three", all in "Living Room".

Up until yesterday, I could say "Hey Google, turn living room lights on. Google Assistant would turn on the 3 lights in the living Room. This has been working since day 1 with my Google Home speaker.

Now, when I say "Hey Google, turn living room lights on" it will turn on the first light in the living room, then advise me that the other 2 lights are not available. However, I can still address each light individually with no issue.

I tried removing the lights from the living room and putting them back in, did not fix.

I tried removing all the rooms, un-assigning all lights from rooms, then putting them back in the living room. Did not fix. While doing this, I did receive an error stating "Unable to communication with Google, try again later."

I tired unlinking my Lifx account and relinking. Did not fix.

Issue persists as of this writing.

Having the same issue and mine started 9/22.

Thanks Rjerrod. My friend in London Ontario has the same issue, also started on 9/22.

I'm very close to ditching my Google speakers, 1 ist Gen and 1 mini.
I've had enough of this nonsense.

Found a way to get the device working again.

  • Go to Routines
  • Create New Routine
  • Add Starter: Type the voice command
  • Add Action: select try adding your own
  • Add the action desired: i.e. turn off main room

Yeah, I'm just not prepared to start deploying workarounds and hacks to correct Google's errors.
There's just been too many.
Right now it's rooms.
I've had to deal with numerous other issues, including NVidia Shield integration being broken for months.

I'm going to wait a couple more days, and if this isn't corrected I'm going to ditch the speakers and Google Home completely.
I have no use for broken technology.

No reply from Google yet either.

Alright, this seems to have started working correctly again.
Just added all the lights to "Living Room", and saying "turn living room lights on" (or off) works.

Fingers crossed.

Hey all,

Sorry to hear about the issues that you're having, I understand it can be frustrating, but I'm happy to look into this for you.

Just wanted to jump in here to get some clarification. Is your question about Routines or is it just about you lights having issues with the Google Home app?

I look forward to hearing from you so that I can provide some further clarification going forward.

Best regards,

Garrett DS

You're a little late to the party, GarrettDS.

I was not asking a question, I was reporting an issue.
I did not mention routines in my report, as routines were not involved.
Simply addressing lights by room as configured in the Google Home app.

The issue seems to have been a regression, as this same issue has cropped up before, with a rather large outage of room addressing last year.

The issue resolved by itself, as I stated on Saturday.
As of this writing the issue remains resolved.
Here's to hoping it stays that way.

For what it's worth, I don't have these types of problems with my Amazon devices, ever. 🙂

Cheers.

Hey there,

Thanks for letting me know about the issue, I'm glad to hear that it's resolved. I apologize that it took so long to respond. I'm happy to send this feedback over to the appropriate team so that they can take note and look further into this.

Since we have a resolution here, I'm going to go ahead and lock the thread.
