Google Assitant recently stopped working with Nest Thermostat, can no longer switch modes

Google Assistant on iOS and also Google home mini can no longer switch modes (eco to cool or cool to eco) on the Nest thermostat.   It can tell you the temperature setting and can change the temperature setting.   If you ask it to switch to cool or turn on cool, it will tell you "sorry, something went wrong"   I completely reset and reinstalled my Nest thermostat and it did not fix the problem,  I can change the mode from the nest app on my phone or from a web browser; only the google assistant and home mini voice commands are not workingl
