Google Chrome hasn’t got the cast option

Found my old Chromecast dongle, reset to factory and plugged into TV. Downloaded Google Home and it can happily see the dongle and the dongle goes through the pictures that I guess are for screensaving. But try as I might I can get Chrome to give me the Cast option. The instructions in the help don’t work at all as the Share and Connect option isn’t in Chrome. I have reloaded Chrome with the latest version as well. What am I doing wrong?

Hi @Chromeunplated

If you click the 3 dot menu at the top right of Chrome, you should see "Cast, save, and share" towards the bottom and then select Cast.

Hi @Chromeunplated,

Thanks for posting in the community. I understand you're experiencing an issue where the Cast option is missing from your Google Chrome browser, even though your Chromecast is visible in the Google Home app. I know this must be concerning, especially since you've already tried updating the Chrome browser to the latest version and the "Share" and "Connect" options aren't there either. I appreciate the detailed information you've shared and your troubleshooting efforts! No worries, let's work together to get this resolved. To help with that, I have a few questions:

  • What type of Chromecast do you have? Please visit the following article to check the model: Chromecast and Google TV Streamer specifications.
  • Are you using a computer or a phone to cast?
  • Is the device you use to cast connected to the same network as your Chromecast?

@David_K, Thank you for jumping in.

Any additional details you can provide will be helpful.

Regards,
Jonathan
