Google Home Automations / Routines keep turning off or deactivates.

For whatever reason Bedtime and other routines deactivated every time I go into Automations.  Why and how can I stop this behavior?

Do these Automations run anyway?

I've seen this happen too, but I think it's just a bug that is happening during the transition from the Google Assistant Google Home to Gemini Google Home.

Yes,  I tested one or two that have Icon with \ through it and it ran,  The Bedtime one has been an issue,  I looked at all users in the group and one user had default Bedtime Routine, not the one I created / added to.  I disabled that one unsure why it was not the same as mine since it's part of the group.

Hi jimbrown,

Thank you for reaching out to our community.

I understand that your ‘Bedtime’ and other routines are deactivating automatically every time you view them in the Google Home app. I appreciate the screenshot you shared; it gives me a much better understanding of what you are experiencing. I’m happy to help you investigate why this is happening and how to stop it.

Thank you SmartHomeH-TAGS for your contribution in this thread.

To get started, please provide a bit more information by answering the following questions:

  • When did this issue first start?
  • How long were your routines working correctly before this behavior began?
  • Have there been any recent changes to your environment, such as a new Wi-Fi network, power outages, or the addition of new smart devices?
  • Are the operating systems of your smartphone and the devices included in your routines up to date?
  • Are you using the new Script Editor for Automations? For reference, you can check this Google Nest Help Center article: Manage smart home automations in Google Home
  • Which version of the Google Home app are you currently using?
  • How often does this occur, and is there a specific time of day when you notice the routines have deactivated?

Please reply with these details so we can work toward a solution for you.

Best regards,

Virna

  • When did this issue first start?  Possible after I updated to Gemini but could not be certain
  • How long were your routines working correctly before this behavior began? Years
  • Have there been any recent changes to your environment, such as a new Wi-Fi network, power outages, or the addition of new smart devices? no wifi changes, did add new hub gen 2 for sleep sensing,  and had to add myself as another user to have sleep sensing as I sleep in two different rooms and could not get sleep sensing working without multiple account.  I have turned off voice recognition for second user as this caused all kinds of issues, as well as it created a Bedtime routine
  • Are the operating systems of your smartphone and the devices included in your routines up to date? Yes
  • Are you using the new Script Editor for Automations? For reference, you can check this Google Nest Help Center article: Manage smart home automations in Google Home   I just use IOS app that is current.
  • Which version of the Google Home app are you currently using? IOS 26.2 Google Home 4.5.56
  • How often does this occur, and is there a specific time of day when you notice the routines have deactivated? everytime but note the routine still runs.  and yes,  I have deactivated and reactivated.
