Google Home Hub stuck on grey screen with a G in the centre - Fixed (for me anyway)

This morning whilst asking a question with my Home Hub display it suddenly went to a black screen and then showed just a grey screen with G in the centre.

Tried restarting but got the same screen. So turned off and on with the volume buttons held down and did a factory reset. No good, just the same screen on restarting.

Came on this forum and there were loads of people saying the same thing. A few suggested fixes, but most saying it can't be fixed and to contact Google for a replacement (if you bought it in the correct place and within warranty!).

I then spent an hour or more trying the suggested fixes to no avail. Nothing worked, it was apparently completely bricked!

Finally, at the grey screen I held down both volume buttons and continued holding both down for ages - well over a minute. Finally, the device made a sound and then the screen went black. I continued holding down the volume buttons and it came up with the Factory Reset screen again which I allowed to complete and the screen went black. I let go of the volume buttons and got the grey screen with "G" again! Walked away in disgust with it still left on.

However, I came back to it, probably 10 mins or so later, to be greeted with the screen asking me to set it up, which I did. It's now working happily, to my great relief!

I've no idea if this will help anybody else that has this problem, but it worked for me.
