Google Home Mini won't connect to CenturyLink Wifi

I'm not sure which Gen Mini I've got. Was given to me a couple of years ago at Christmas by an Ex. I had no problems setting this up with Comcast. Now that I've switched (regrettably) to CenturyLink it will not Connect to Wifi no matter what I try. Reddit is full of posts with this same issue but the solutions seem to be for a different modem that offers a Cyber Security option on the modem GUI menu. I've got a Calix C844G router which does not have this option. CenturyLink customer service is worthless. This is not a Google problem this is a Centurylink problem but there needs to be a FAQ page from Google AND CenturyLink to help with this issue for owners of Home Minis who are unfortunately on Centurylink fiber.

Can anyone help me tweak the modem settings so this Mini can get on wifi?

Thanks in advance!

I have the same issue and modem as well. Hopefully there's a solution because it's pretty frustrating.

Have you figured it out or find a work around to this issue? Facing the same problem on my end

I am experiencing the exact same issue, and I am pulling my hair out because of it.

Easy to fix.  The issue is that you need to enable the special character allowance.   Advance settings, then go to DHCP, and enable

Did that when setting up my Nest thermostat in order to get it to connect to the WiFi. So that ain't it for the Home Mini.

Tl;dr: Advanced Setup, IPv4 Firewall, and set Security level = disabled. Do the same with IPv6 Firewall.

I recently met this problem when I moved into a new apartment and they use the old Calix C844G router. I found it odd that all devices can independently connect, but when using the Google Home to setup the mini or hub, it doesn't want to connect. This is because they restrict some device-to-device connectivity using a (outdated) firewall, and simply disabling it from the admin console will do the trick.

Note, I also tried enabling lovinglife324's answer before fixing this so not sure if they're both needed. Hope this helps everyone!

Thanks! That worked, but do you have to leave the firewalls disabled? Not super keen on that.

Hi @wintermelons

Could you elaborate as to what Calix router settings you changed to allow your google devices to connect?  All of a sudden both of devices stopped working and I can't figure out what is going on.  I am able to connect to the speakers via the google home app on my phone but then I'm unable to upload the wifi detais to the speakers.   At some point I could see that one of the speakers had an IP address show on my router but still couldn't get it to work.  Any help would be great! cc @Jake

  • Go to 192.168.0.1 on your computer. This is the admin console
  • Login (credentials found on the router)
  • Go to Advanced Setup
  • Go to IPv4 Firewall
  • Set Security level to disabled
  • Do the same with IPv6 Firewall.

And don't forget to save the settings!
