Google Home Nest wifi connectivity issues

Noremac

Hi everyone,

I have seen similar posts to my issue but none of them had solutions other than the user getting a new product. So, I thought I would post my issues just in case there's a new solution.

Products connected to wifi: 2 nest minis, 1 nest speaker, 1 chromecast, 2 smart TVs, computer, 3 smart lights, and nest doorbell. All products have been on the wifi/connected for over 3+ years without any issues.

Situation: The next mini (in the same room as the wifi router) has been having connectivity issues. It started late last week. When I would interact with it, it would respond: "Hang on while I get connected to wifi" but the wifi is fully running and all other devices are working fine.

So I have done these things: Rebooted the wifi (a few times). Unplug nest mini to let it reset. Delete it and reinstall it on the app. Factory reset nest mini and reinstall it (multiple times).

After the most recent factory reset/installation it seemed to be working normally, but then it went back to 'not connected to wifi.' However, what makes this situation weird is that it will connect to wifi randomly and work normally. But it's just really annoying because it's majority of the times not working.

System firmware version: 429109

Cast firmware: 3.73.429109

Please let me know if there's anything else I could do before going out a buying a new nest mini?

Thank you!

Hi Noremac,

Thanks for reaching out. I understand that you have an inconvenience connecting your Google Nest Mini to wifi. I know this can be frustrating; no worries, I am here to help! Before, I need to ask some questions to understand better your situation.

  • How long did the device work before the connectivity issue started?
  • How was the connectivity issue discovered?
Did the device give an audible error like: I can't reach the internet right now. Check your modem or router connection and try again.
“I can't connect to the WiFi network. You might want to check the connection settings in the Google Home app.
  • Did the device eventually start to work again?

I will be awaiting your response.

Regards,

Manuel

Apologies for the delayed response - work got the best of me this past week.

  • The nest mini had been working fine without issue for 2+ years.
  • The issue was discovered when I woke up and asked what the weather was and it said it needed to connect to the internet. And what it says now “hang on while I get connected to WiFi” but I’m confident it said something like “I can’t reach  the internet now. Check your modem”
  •  It says it has internet issues 90% of the time and very randomly will be connected normally. But that’s short lived and will disconnect.

But the worrisome part is now my second nest mini device is having similar issues - the inconsistent connectivity to the WiFi. But all other devices (including nest doorbell and nest speaker) are functioning fine (and they’re all further from the WiFi modem).

Hi Noremac,

Thanks for your reply and the information. I understand that you've already tried troubleshooting steps like resetting your Wi-Fi, factory resetting your Google Nest Mini, and uninstalling and reinstalling the Google Home App.

The team would like to learn more about this behavior. When you get a chance, please fill out this form and let us know when you're finished. We'll have someone reach out to you via email from there.

Regards,

Manuel

I've been having a related issue (reported here )

My Google Homes have been working fine since I first received them in ~ 2018?

I get the “I can't reach the internet right now. Check your modem or router connection and try again.” error.

It seems to have cropped up after the newest update that changed the notification sounds.

They work fine after restarting them, but eventually have issues with finding the wifi - all other devices work perfectly. It seems like they don't bother to actually scan for wifi after momentarily disconnecting.

Hi

Thanks for reaching out. I understand that even after rebooting, the inconvenience persists.

I have a question: Have you tried a factory reset? If not, please visit the Google Home factory data reset. You'll find instructions on how to perform a factory reset.

If the inconvenience persists after a factory reset, please let me know.

I will be waiting for your response.

Regards

Manuel
