Google Home and Mini providing weather for the wrong city

Squirrel

Hello,

This is the first time I've posted to this forum.  I've tried to search for my issue and found several so called "fixes" for the issue, but nothing in relation to the current Google Home app.  Since the app. is always changing and when it does you can never, readily find the item needed again from a previous solution, I'm asking for some help.

I have a Google Home, and a Mini, I believe they are first gen items.

I have changed my address with Google.  I have also changed it in my Google Home app.  So my speakers should be giving me weather when asked of the correct city.  However, that doesn't happen.  It gives me weather of a city 12 miles away.  Since I just moved to this state I'm in a few days ago, I'm not sure why Google can't recognize the address and city I've provided it where I live.

I even tell my Google Home and Mini to "Change my location to [said city]."  My Home and Mini both say that it's changed, but then immediately revert back to the city 12 miles away.

I am at a point of hating these products and considering throwing them in the street at this point.

Can someone tell me how to either fix this, or why Google products are ignorant of the information provided to them in relation to where you live?

I forgot to add that my phone, also and Android.  It recognizes the city I live in and I can ask it the weather, and it will give me the weather of the actual city I'm in when sitting next to my Google Home/Mini.

Thank you!

Hi Squirrel,

That certainly hasn't been easy for you. Let's further look into it. I understand that you already changed the address on the Google Home app, but let’s give it another try, including the other steps:

  • Open the Google Home app.
  • Tap Settings > Home information > Home address. Remove and then add your current address.
  • Tap the account icon at the top right > Then tap Assistant settings > You > Your Places > Home. Remove and re-add your address.
  • Force close the Google Home app.
  • Unplug your Google Home device for a minute > Plug it back in.
  • Give it a voice command: “What’s the weather today?”.

Let me know how it goes.

Alex

Hello, and thank you for replying.

I have tried all these steps to the letter.  Removing addresses, putting them back in, force closing, unplugging the Google Home.  It still thinks I am 12 miles away from where I live.

Hi there,

That’s odd. Let’s factory reset one of your Google Home devices. Create a new home and set up your Google Home device. Then, ask it again about the weather. Keep us posted.

Best,
Alex

Sorry, I don't know why I wasn't getting e-mails in regards to a reply.  Unfortunately, I have factory reset both devices, and it is still giving me weather in a different city.  I removed the devices from my "Home" app. and factory reset them.
I'm at a loss for how to get weather in the actual city I live in.

Hi Squirrel,

I know how it feels when something isn’t working the way it should. I’m sure there’s a way to fix this. Let’s continue checking on this. What city do you live in, and which city do your Google Home devices keep recognizing?

Kind regards,
Alex

Hey Alex, I'm in Reno, and the city 12 miles away is Virginia City Highlands, NV.
