Google Home devices can no longer answer "what is the weather"

stumble444

It has been months that my Nest Mini stop responding me the weather information when I ask "what's the weather."

However, when I add location, like "what's the weather in New York", they respond with the answer.

I've tried to reboot the device, re-add the device, and re-add my address in Home app, but nothing works.

How can I fix this?

BTW, the Google assistant on my Android has the same behavior.

On the Settings page is the Home address (top of page) the same as that shown in Your Places?

If the commands...

"Hey Google, Where do I live"

and

"Hey Google, Where am I" give you different results them something isn't quite right.

Yes and no. I've set up Home at multiple addresses, and both commands gave me the correct responses at all places. However, neither of them can provide me with weather information unless I explicitly add location details.

Hi @stumble444,

This seems to be a known Google Assistant issue affecting weather queries without a location. A few things to try while Google works on a fix:

  1. Make sure Home app › Settings › Home information › Home address is fully filled in (street + city + ZIP).

  2. Check the device language in Assistant settings is set to the same region as your address.

  3. Clear/update the Google app & Assistant on your Android phone.

  4. Reboot both phone and Nest Mini after changes.

If it still only works with a city added, it’s likely on Google’s end rather than your device. You can report it via Assistant › Help & Feedback › Send feedback so it’s logged.

Hi @aurilie,

Thank you for the suggestion!

After following all the steps, my phone can answer the weather without me giving an explicit location.

However, the Nest Mini still has trouble answering.

Hi @stumble444,

Thank you for reaching out to the Google Nest Community. I'm sorry to hear that your Nest Mini is experiencing issues with the basic "What's the weather?" command. I understand your frustration, especially since you've already taken steps like rebooting and checking your address. I appreciate your efforts. I'm glad to assist you.

I appreciate your responses @aurilie and @SmartHomeH-TAGS.

To determine the most effective troubleshooting plan, could you please answer the following questions:

  • When was the device purchased?
  • What kind of environment is the device in (e.g., quiet, normal, or noisy)?
  • Does the same issue occur when others are speaking to the speaker or displaying?
  • Do you have multiple Homes set up in your Google Home app?
  • Are there other family members who can access the speaker?

If you have any additional details that might be helpful, feel free to share them with me.

Regards,

Gabriela

Hi @stumble444,

Thank you for your reply and the important information you shared about your Nest Mini. I'm happy to continue assisting you.

Please follow these steps to resolve the issue:

First, make sure Personal results are enabled for the primary Google account linked to your Nest Mini. Your mobile device should be on the same WiFi network or signed in to the same account as the speaker.

  1. Open the Google Home app.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Tap Google Assistant, and then Personal results.
  4. Please proceed with the steps displayed on your screen.

Next, check the audio recording of your command in the My Activity setting to confirm what your Nest Mini actually heard.

  1. Open the Google Home app.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Under "Home features," tap Privacy.
  4. Verify that the Google Account shown is the one linked to your speaker.
  5. Select Home activity.
  6. Identify the most recent command that failed.
  7. Select Details below the Assistant Query (this will expand the information).
  8. Tap the Play button on the query card to confirm from My Activity what the speaker or display heard at the time the issue occurred.

Please let me know what you find after checking these settings.

Regards,

Gabriela

Hi @GabrielaG

I disabled and enabled the Personal results and the command does show up in the Home activity and it is the correct command and location.
