Google Home will not maintain contact with SONY STR DN1080 in a speaker group or speaker group

I have a STR DN1080 with chromcast built in (and updated today) that used to be available in the speaker groups that I put it in.  When I would ask my Nest Max to play on "whole house" which included the receiver, the receiver would usually turn on and then play with the Nest Max and the two strategically placed mini's.  True whole house rock and roll.  SOMETIMES, I had to turn on the receiver to get the whole group to play together.    Then about 6 months ago, I changed locations of one of the mini's and the whole thing fell apart.  Now when I ask the Max to play on "whole house" only the Nest and the mini's play.  The STR DN1080 (called Lounge Receiver) can be added to a speaker group, but when the Nest Max is asked to play the anything on the group, the receiver is not included and does not even show up on the list of available speakers.   It is now not even available to play on (although it was 5 minutes ago.)  I am perplexed on how to solve this issue.  I have reset the max, minis and updated the receiver.  I have spent over two hours with that and research.  These are two hours I cannot get back, gone to the universe forever.  Not sure Google chromecast is worth that price...   Am beginning to wonder what other options I can find to have surround sound TV when in the TV "lounge" area AND a whole house music experience using the speakers in the kitchen and the receiver.

Hi Phlynn,

Thanks for reaching out.

We're sorry to hear that you are experiencing it right now with your Google Nest speakers. We also appreciate all your efforts on trying the steps. Since you've pretty much done all the possible troubleshooting steps, we'd like to get more info about your devices.

  • How far are the speakers from each other and the router?
  • Are they all connected to the same Wi-Fi channel (2.4 GHz or 5 GHz)
  • Could you list down all the speakers connected to the speaker group and all their cast firmware versions?

To check which firmware version you're on, follow these steps:

  1. Open the Google Home app Google Home app.
  2. Touch and hold your device's tile.
  3. Tap Settings and then Device information.
  4. Under "Technical information," check for Cast firmware: "X.XXX.XXXXX." If the device is on Fuchsia, check for System firmware version: "X.XXXXXXXX.X.XXXXXXX"

Looking forward to your response.

Best,

Princess
