Google Hub V1 - During low light clock not going active, continuing to show photos.

So one of the options I have always used on my Google HUB V1 is the ability to show photos during the day but when the room gets dark you switch to just a simple clock.

So this is done under the Display options you set during low light your choices are clock or turn off screen.  I have always used the clock option and it has worked fine for years.  But a few days ago for the first time when the room went dark it kept showing photos.  If I switched to turn off the display that would work but going to clock didn't.

I power cycled the device and then it returned to normal.

Then three days later it did the same thing again and I had to power cycle the device to fix it.

Is anyone else seeing this problem?

Yes I'm having the same issue and it also started happening around the same time you first experienced it.

I am assuming a bug in the latest firmware.  A power cycle fixes it... It hasn't happened last 2 nights so maybe a new firmware has fixed it?

Thanks. By power cycle do you mean a reboot? I tried a reboot but the problem persists.

I mean I unplugged it from power then waited 20 sec and then plugged it back in again.

Thanks! It took a few goes, as it did for you, but it finally seems to have worked.

It happened again last night so it is not fixed it is just happening less frequently!

Hey there,

Thanks for visiting the Community.

Since this thread hasn't had activity in a while, we're going to close it to keep content fresh. I did find an article with more details on the ambient feature. We hope you were able to get the help you need, but if the issue persists feel free to create a new thread, and provide as many details as possible so that others can lend a hand.

Best regards,
Jake

Same problem here last few days, pretty annoying BTW. Tried to reboot it as described above several times but no luck.

Same here, happens several times a week now. The hub usually reboots itself during the night and returns to normal for a few days. Not much use having a night clock that doesn't display the time at night!

I've opened a support case about this and been asked to try a few options. I'll update the thread if the issue appears to be fixed.

So google's  advice was a factory reset. I had already tried this but the issue returned after 2 weeks. Now 2 weeks after following their advice the issue has again returned.

Google has now effectively washed their hands of the problem by saying their only option is a replacement if I am eligible, which I'm not as the device is 3 years old.

This is very frustrating as it is obviously software related rather than a hardware fault and is affecting other people.

I had the same issue and couldn't figure it out. My display setting for clock kept showing my photo gallery. I accidentally decided to swipe right on the screen and this brought back my clock. Now when the light us bright the gallery shows and when dim the clock comes back. Not sure if this solves anyone else's problem but so far it's working like normal.
