Google Hub keeps shutting off

My Google home hub keeps just randomly shutting itself off.

I have unplugged several times, left unplugged for a night. Manually restarted and still will work for a few hours and randomly shut off

I saw about factory reset and it says to hold volume button when plugging back in and hold both volume buttons to reset. So when plugging back in, which volume button do I hold down? Up down both?

Is the Hub actually turning off (no power to ask questions or touch display), which I don't think is possible unless you have a power issue, or is it just the screen that's going into some Night Mode where it goes dark?

It seems to be. The screen is black and doesn't come back up when lights come on, or you hit the volume button or ask Google something. It's just off. I have to hold in the volume button until the G pops ups and then I wait. It comes back and everything is fine and then hours later it's off.

No other power issues in home or outlet

Hi YamZen,

Thanks for reaching out to our community.

I understand that your Google Home Hub keeps shutting off. I appreciate you letting us know the troubleshooting efforts you have tried so I can provide you with better assistance. No worries, help is here.

Thank you SmartHomeH-TAGS for your contribution in this thread.

Before I start further troubleshooting, let me ask you a few questions:

  • What is the model and generation of your Google Home Hub? Here is a Google Help Center article that can help you to identify your device: Google Nest and Home device specifications
  • Is your Google Home Hub plugged directly into a wall outlet or surge protector?
  • When your Google Home Hub is plugged into the wall outlet, does it show any LED lights that indicate that it has power?
  • Are other devices able to receive power from the same outlet?
  • Is the official power adapter that came with your Google Home Hub used on the device?
  • Have you tried to use another wall outlet?
  • When did the issue begin?
  • Was there any type of electrical outage around the time the issue began?

In the meantime, I recommend you try the following troubleshooting steps:

  • Plug your Google Home hub into a different wall outlet.
Note: Ensure it is not connected to a surge protector to rule out all other hardware.
  • Discharge the Google Nest Hub:
    • Unplug the power adapter from the outlet and the Google Home Hub.
    • Leave it unplugged for 20 seconds.
    • Plug the power adapter into the Google Home Hub.
    • Plug the other end of the power adapter into a wall outlet that works.
    • Check if any LED lights would appear on the Google Home Hub.

Please keep me posted.

Best regards,

Virna

I did try to reset it but it still happened. It lasted longer before going black.

I am not sure the hub. It's gotten be one of the first hub displays. It's about 7 in. Is not a nest I know that. It has an orange bottom.

Thanks
