Google Nest Audio and Home Stopped Working

martinix
Community Member

As 2 July my Google Nest Audio and Google Home have stopped working. There have been no system level changes or udpates. I've attempted complete resets of both the Google Home App and the Nest Audio Devices. Nest Audio Devices are recognised during setup. Set up appears to complete but audio will not play. Devices cannot be configured as stereo pairs. After several attempts, a stereo pair can be forced but audio will only play from one speaker after setup. I've attempted to follow guidance elsewhere in this forum but none of the suggestions work. I would welcome guidance and suggestions on how to recover my Google Home/Nest Audio services. Thank you.

Hi martinix,

That’s not the experience we want you to have. For confirmation, are you trying to pair your Nest Audio and your Google Home speaker? If so, that feature is unavailable. You can only pair speakers of the same model. Your Nest Audio cannot be paired with a Google Home.

If you want to stream your media to several speakers throughout your home, learn more on how to create and manage speaker groups. Try it out and let us know how it goes.

Best,

Dan

Hi Dan. Thanks for your message and suggestions. I've been away for a few days hence the delay in replying. I've now got the system working again. To clarify, both speakers that I was attempting to pair were identical Nest Audio speakers. The following comments may be of use by way of feedback to the Google Home team..

  1. When the Nest Audio devices are paired and then tested with the Google Home app, audio (when paired speaker volume is adjusted) is only heard from one speaker (the first speaker selected when paired). If further tests of the paired speakers are conducted using Google Home by adjusting the paired speaker (left/right) balance control, this behaviour is confirmed. Audio is only heard from one speaker. However when audio is streamed to the speaker pair, then they perform as expected with audio being heard from both speakers. This is further confirmed by streaming a stereo audio test file. It may be worthwhile correcting the bug in the Google Home pairing set up and volume control to avoid folk chasing their tail trying to confirm that speaker pairing is working as intended.
  2. When creating new speaker groups in Google Home, there seems to be a delay (of up to 24 hours) before the speaker groups become operational. If this delay was known about by users, it would avoid them wasting time to get a speaker group working with the expectation that it should be immediately functional. (I note comments and suggestions elsewhere of creating a 'Google Hellspace' room for configuring and testing speaker devices before moving them to a 'real' room for use.)

When it works, and once setup, Google Home works well. But when setting up new devices, or reconfiguring existing devices, performance is erratic and can be frustrating for users.
