Google Nest Hub (2nd Gen) repeats same four songs from a playlist of 100+

this topic was posted before but closed without an answer.

I recently bought the Google Nest Hub (2nd gen). It works fairly well (a bit slow at times). I mainly use it to play songs via YouTube Music (premium). Whenever I say, "hey google,  shuffle my happy hour playlist", it will play those songs. but after 20 to 30 minutes, it will repeat only four songs. my playlist, titled "Happy Hour", has more than 100 songs.

if I play the playlist from my phone and cast to the device, it works fine. but I don't want it to do that. please help.

thanks!

What happens without shuffle command?

Is there a shuffle button on the screen you can press to get a better result instead of the verbal command?

trying for the first time without shuffle, and it's playing the songs in order. I do not see a shuffle button on the device.  there is a menu button for "more options", but after pressing, nothing comes up.

Hi @jco23,

Thanks for reaching out here in the community! I understand your Google Nest Hub (2nd gen) is having trouble shuffling your "Happy Hour" YouTube Music playlist via voice command, playing only 4 out of 100 songs. However, it works fine when you cast it from your phone or play it without the shuffle command. I appreciate the detailed information, and I'll be glad to help you with this!

To continue investigating this situation, I’d like to ask for the following information:

In the meantime, let’s try these steps:

  • Update both your mobile device and the Google Home app to their latest software versions.
  • Reboot your Google Nest Hub. For instructions, refer to this article: Reboot Google Nest or Home speaker or display.
  • Restart your router, and update its firmware if needed. Firmware updates can often fix router bugs.

I appreciate your input, @SmartHomeH-TAGS.

Keep me updated.

Best regards,
Jenniffer

i have not tried another music service.

firmware version: 26.20250116.103.2900

all software is up to date on my device (Pixel 😎 and Home app.

i've rebooted the Hub, but that did not improve anything. I typically reboot my router once every two weeks, but all software/firmware is up to date.

thanks for the reply.

Hi @jco23,

Thanks for following up, and I'm sorry for the delayed response.

I appreciate you sharing this information. This will definitely help move the case forward. Let's try these troubleshooting steps in order:

  • Say, 'Hey Google, shuffle my playlist Happy Hour on repeat.' Check if the playlist plays correctly. If not, continue to the next step.
  • While the playlist is playing, manually enable the 'Repeat all' option in YouTube Music. Check if this resolves the issue. If not, proceed to the next step.
  • Change the default music service provider:
    • Go to the Google Home app.
    • Set the default music provider to 'No default provider.'
    • Force close the app.
    • Reopen the app and set the default music provider back to YouTube Music. Test again. If the issue persists, use the workaround below.

Try to start the playlist without shuffle: 'Hey Google, play Happy Hour,' and once it begins playing, say, 'Hey Google, shuffle.'

Let me know how it goes.

Jenniffer

hi jenniffert,

i tried each of the tips you suggested, but they did not work. it still repeats four random songs continuously.
