Google Home Mini refusing to set up after factory reset

I recently changed my Internet provider, and in the process of setting all my devices up on the new network, I discovered the only way to change the network on a Google Home Mini is to factory reset it and set it up as new.

Well.

Now, my Mini is refusing to participate in the setup process. It is found during the device setup flow in the Home app, my phone tries to connect to its ad-hoc network, but from there absolutely nothing happens until the Home app times out. Was there some sort of update that bricks the device if it's reset?

Hi bejoe95,

Thanks for reaching out to the community! I understand you recently changed your ISP. In the process of setting up all your devices on your new network, you noticed that the only way to add your Google Home Mini (1st gen) is to factory reset it and set it up as a new device. While it is found during the device setup process, nothing happens until the Google Home app times out. I'll be glad to help you with this!

To isolate the root cause of the inconvenience, I have some questions for you:

  • Did you get any error code? If so, what was it?
  • Is your Google Home app updated? Please check out the following link for your reference: Update the Google Home app
  • How far is your Google Home Mini (1st gen) from your router?

Please let me know if you have any other information; it'll be helpful.

Best regards,
Juan

I have since resolved this issue after leaving the Home Mini unplugged for a full 24 hours.

But to answer your questions, 1. There were no error codes ever given. 2. The Google Home app was indeed fully updated. 3. The device was placed less than 10 feel from the router.
