Google Nest Hub Max constantly disconnecting from Wifi

Slboggs
Community Member

I noticed this was a problem as early as 6/2022. Google nest hub max. It's not the internet provider, not the router/modem (use 3 puck Google). It's the one device. I unplug, plug in, works fine for about 8 minutes. Then, it has disconnected from internet. Have factory reset. Same problem. Have hotspotted to my phone. Same issue. Bizzarly, though, I gave the Google nest hub regular size does not do this. It is in another room and is just fine. Seeing this with the Google Max Nest Hub only. Last post said Google was aware and working on a fix. That was in August. So, no fix? Still working? I'm about to trash it because I am fed up with giving a command and having it tell me it is not connected to internet.

Hey folks,

The team would love your help to look into this further. In order for the team to explore further, we need to gather additional feedback from affected customers. You can send feedback from your Nest Hub Max device by saying, "Hey Google, send feedback." While you're sharing your feedback, it's important to use the keywords, "Nest Hub Max keeps on disconnecting to the network". For more instructions on how to send feedback, check this out

Once you're done sending feedback, please fill out this form with all the needed information needed.

Cheers,

@Slboggs

Have you tried swapping the locations for your Nest Hub Max and your Nest Hub, just to make sure the cause isn't a weak Wi-Fi signal at the Nest Hub Max's current location? (I'm suggesting this only because our Nest Hub Max stays connected all the time, but is very close to a Wi-Fi access point.)

Thanks for responding But, no, it is literally 8 feet away.

Mine does this as well. It doesnt matter where the router is located it just randomly decides its not going to pick up xyz service. The other issue I see too is that if you have home app on multiple phones it does sync the changes from phone to phone so the volume goes up and down depending on what phone takes priority arbitrarily. Google has set DRM so rigid for their devices it doesn't know what to do. Too sometimes it wont "connect" when you are in the device in home but if you are the splash/overview page you can change the volume from there and works np. This is 100% a programing problem and has nothing to do with wireless connectivity.

Hi folks,

@MplsCustomer, thank you for your help.

@Slboggs, @husher5142, I know exactly how it feels if something’s not working the way they should be. Let’s check everything out.

For confirmation, it’s only happening on your Google Nest Hub Max, right? When it disconnects from Wi-Fi, does it reconnect by itself or do you need to do something to get it reconnected? How often does it happen in a day? To narrow things down, I need you to do a sequential reboot starting with your Wi-Fi router followed by your Nest Hub Max. Restarting your phone might also help and monitor the behavior afterwards.

Keep me posted.

Best,

Dan

All devices at random. 4 mini's and a max hub in my home - i wasn't going to add anything else from the google line, if this stuff doesn't work at the very basic level.

one more comment on this, funny as it is ... you could lose contact to home or audio on the hub ... but the nest camera is still functioning and responding no issue - lol total failure of a device

I'm experiencing the exact same problem! I've only had the Google Nest Hub Max for a few months. I've rebooted my network modem, my phone and the Nest Hub Max a number of times and it stays online for a few days. The Nest Hub Max attempts to reconnect to the wifi network, but it stops after a few tries.

I shouldn't be required to disconnect and reconnect the Google Nest Hub Max every time it fails. All of my other appliances and electronics remain connected unless there's a power outage. The only problem is with the Google Nest Hub Max! This is a serious problem!! Google needs to access the problem and provide a software fix expeditiously!!

Hi Waltg8,

Have you tried the steps above? Also, so that we could isolate this one, try to monitor your Nest Hub Max’s connection when you move it close to your router.

Tell me how it goes.

Best regards,
Dan

I have the same issue on a brand new hub max. I thought my old one was dead. Turns out it's this issue that everyone is having. I would love for Google to fix this.

My router is just a few feet from the Google Nest Hub Max. When I purchased this item, which wasn't cheap, there weren't any notices stating that the router must be placed directly next to the Nest Hub. I wouldn't have purchased it. The purchase price warrants better software or a better radio receiver placed in the Nest Hub Max. Out of all of my electronics and appliances, the Google Nest Hub Max is the ONLY item constantly disconnecting from the wifi signal. This is a Google issue, and they are well aware of the problem. I'm certain that one of the many technical geniuses employed by Google should have figured this out and provided a fix by now. Should we as consumers air our complaints on every social media platform in order to receive support? I purchased the Hub Max and a Nest camera for security purposes. I just received a replacement Nest camera because of the black rolling lines that appear when the camera turns on, to no avail. This camera does the same thing right out of the box. I had the first camera two months. These are serious problems!

I'm convinced they are using a mac/arp table on the app versus calling home to the router (thats just my theory)

I've been having the same issue with all three of my nest hub maxes. I've tried everything from rebooting them, rebooting the router, doing a factory reset... Nothing helps. It's been going on for months and it's incredibly annoying. Not sure what the point is of spending a ton of money on "smart" home devices that barely work.

Sounds as if we are all in the same boat. Another thing I noticed is that when I pull up a recipe and ask Google to go to next step or start cooking, it will no longer do those things. Instead, I get a video for Next Steps off You Tube. These functions used to work which is the reason I placed the max in the kitchen. Now, I can't keep it connected to internet and when, by rare chance it is, the features I wanted for recipes no longer work!!!!

Good point. That's also one of the reasons I have three units and put one in the kitchen. I just gave up on that months ago and use my phone instead.

Hey folks,

My apologies for the delays. To confirm, have you tried connecting your Nest Hub Max to a different network like mobile hotspot? Please note that you will need two mobile devices for this setup (one will serve as a router and the other to be used to set up your Nest Hub Max). Also, please do not forget to remove your Nest display from the Google Home app first prior resetting it to make sure that your device was totally removed from your account.

Keep us posted.

Cheers,

With all honesty, we purchased the Hub Max because of its specifications/features touted and promoted by Google. It's supposed to have the ability to connect to our home wifi network. I didn't purchase my mobile phone to be used for a Hub Max Hotspot! When I leave home, the Hotspot goes with me which leaves my home without a security camera. I will not purchase any Google electronics from this day forward if this is the type support we are to expect. This is unacceptable! Google needs to fix the problem!

Hey Waltg8,

To confirm, have you tried connecting your device to a mobile hotspot? Please note that connecting the Nest Hub Max to a mobile hotspot is just an option for us to isolate network issues.

No, connecting the Hub Max to my phone does nothing. I have no intention of leaving the Hub Max connected to my mobile phone for days in an attempt to isolate connection problems. I've had this problem since I purchased the unit. My unit is closer to my WiFi router and still disconnects randomly.

I haven't received any viable solutions or any help whatsoever from Google with this matter. I can guarantee you that I will never purchase any Google products again. This was my first purchase of Google electronics and the last. If you need to close the thread, please do so. I will publish my reviews of the Nest products online.

Hi Waltg8,

I understand and I know how it feels. We're sorry for the inconvenience that this has caused you. However, for us to make sure that the device is working or not, we need to check if this will also happen when you connect it to a different network. We hope you to consider trying this steps.

Best,

Muddi - Yes,I did setup the Google Nest Hub Max on my mobile Hotspot. It required a factory reset and after setting up the unit, I monitored the connections for both the Nest Hub Max and the Nest 2nd Generation wired camera.

The Nest 2nd Generation wired camera remained connected without any interference.

The Nest Hub Max camera cut off and back on, or disconnected the very same way when it's connected to my WiFi network. This only occurs with the Nest Hub Max which is much closer to both my WiFi router and my mobile phone. The problem is the Nest Hub Max, not my network.

Agreed. Everything suggested, I tried. I finally gave up, threw the device in a box, and put a mini there. Problem solved. Mini doesn't disconnect. So, my Nest Max Hub is 200.00 wasted dollars in a cardboard box.

I've tried all of the suggestions with the same result, same problem. It is so frustrating that I no longer use it. However, the nest mini is in the same spot and doesn't have a single issue.

Hello, I’m also having the same fact issues. I’ve isolated the issue to the nest hub Max, my network is functioning perfectly. I’ve filled out the form.

ARE YOU SERIOUS !!!!  How about you spend your money on 3 max hubs, and 2 regular hubs and watch the disco light show around your home from the screens constantly flashing , and the echo around the house (I CAN’T CONNECT TO THE INTERNET RITE NOW ) !

The only thing that works without fail so far from google is the pain in the butt password verification.
