ColinMe

Google assistant allowed increasing volume during a duo call by saying Hey Google turn the volume to 7 ... seems that feature is not set with latest updates,  how to I turn that on. 99 year old with no ablitiy to use her arms needs that to make calls to her family and some members speak loud others quiet.

Hi ColinMe,

Thanks for posting here in the Google Nest Community.

This is not the experience that we wanted you to have, let me help you out. Which Nest speaker/display are we working with?  You can try these commands to adjust the volume on your Nest Hub Max.

  • Say "Ok Google" or “Hey Google,” then:
  • Increase volume: "Turn it up"
  • Decrease volume: "Turn it down"
  • Set specific volume level: "Volume level 5" or "Volume to 65%"
  • Maximize volume: "Max volume"
  • Minimum volume: "Minimum volume"
  • Change volume by X amount: "Increase volume by 10%" or "Decrease volume by 10%"

Check this link for more information.

Hope this helps.

Thanks,

Jun

Hi Jun,
I am not with the device it is up at my grandmas nursing home.  It is the Google Nest Hub Max. Yes those commands work fine but not during duo (meet) call. My family now needs to exit the call give google the command to turn up or down the volume, then make the call back again.
This is new, it worked fine a month ago, even during a duo (meet) call. Now it says it can't use those commands while in a call.  What changed? Thanks, Colin

Hi ColinMe,

Thanks for the response. If you have the chance to go there to do some troubleshooting you can sequential reboot. First, unplug your Nest Hub Max for 30 seconds, then do the same thing to your Wi-Fi router to refresh both devices and your Wi-Fi signal. If that did not work you can perform a factory data reset to out the device back to its default setting and set it up again as a new device. Check the steps below on how to do it.

  1. Save any important footage from your device's video history.
  2. Remove your Nest Hub Max from the Google Home app Google Home app.
  3. On the back of Nest Hub Max, press and hold both volume buttons together for about 10 seconds. Your Nest Hub Max will let you know that it's resetting.

Keep me posted.

Hi Juni,

I am unable to get up to my grandmas nursing home but my parents have my grandmas old unit same model just failing camera.  It too has the same problem where you are unable to ask Google to change the volume while on a Google Meet call.  It was reset back to factory a month ago when I set it up for them, and their router reset, but no difference, both just stopped working around the sametime with the same issue from my investigations.

I have not done a complete wipe as I've been away and won't see them until the end of the month at which time I will attempt it.

Being that this is happening on two devices seems odd to me, do you have a Google Nest Home Max that you can try getting onto a call using Google Meet, and attempt to change the volume while speaking with the person by saying Hey Google turn up the volume? I am convinced if you try you will have the same issue. I believe this must have been an update Google rolled out that needs to be revisited because there are handicapped people who rely on these features.

Let me know what you find.

Thanks,

Colin
