Google Nest Hub not following Default Display settings

My Google Nest Hub is not following the Default Display settings on the Home App. Well it does if you re-boot the Hub, but as soon as you interact with the hub, it does not return to the Default Display. So, I have a Default display of Clock in Dim light. Instead it carries on displaying photos in a very dim light. Reboot corrects this, but again, even a request to play a radio station, followed by a 'Stop' request results in no adherence. Any suggestions? Thanks
