The last 3 weeks my Nest Mini 2 have lost WiFi connection once a week, I need to reset to factory settings, remove it from my Google Home, and connect it again. then it works a week again. I have 2 more nest mini 2, in my house the are working without problems. I am also using Google WiFi, so there is perfect WiFi in the house. The only thing is one of the nest minis, it have been working for a long time, without any problems, this issue started 3 weeks ago.

Hi, yes, I did see this. I'll try experimenting with different networks over the weekend and see what happens.

Hi RobbieB,

A quick follow up-- I just want to check if you have tried the suggested steps posted above? Let us know, otherwise we'll be locking the thread.

Hi Princess

I did try and, unfortunately, after about 20 hours is started failing again as originally described.

I'm going to reset the unit and try adding it back to the 2.4GHz only network and see if that works.

All good so far. The Google Nest Mini that kept losing connection has been good all weekend after resetting it and connecting it to my 2.4g GHz  only network.

I think I'm complete on this now. Thanks for checking in.

Instead of trying to close this thread you should spent effort to convince high level management within Google that this issue is already taking 2 years without a proper fix. It is clear that these Mini devices cannot cope with network setups that are very common nowadays. Because of the very poor support I will never buy any device from Nest or Google again. And I would recommend everybody to do the same.

In my experience, networking is pretty flaky and always has been. I mean generally; not just with these devices. I set up a 2.4GHz-only guest network on my TP-Link Deco X5 mesh WiFi for ancillary devices such as these and others – especially those that don't support 5GHz.

The replacement unit I got from the store has  worked so far. Time will tell. All my other 5 units have not had this issue.

Hey folks,

We're sorry for the trouble this has caused you — let me help you out.

A few questions: are you getting any message on your Google Nest Mini when it disconnects from your network? When did it start happening? Also, how frequently it disconnects from your network (daily, weekly). Have you tried resetting your Nest Mini?

Keep us posted!

Thanks,

Alex

Hi Alex

Yes, tried switching it off and on again. And factory reset. And resetting the network. And turning off 5GHz.

Started a few months ago. Affects minis only, not either of my hubs. Happens 2-3 times a week.

However, if I turn one unit off, all the rest stay connected for several days (so far). I have plenty of capacity on my network for more devices.

My replacement unit is still holding on to the wifi. Nothing else has changed. Time will tell.

Hey RobbieB,

Thanks for letting us know and for doing those steps. What's the message you're getting from your Nest Mini when it's disconnected from your network? Also, just to isolate have you tried setting up your Nest Mini devices using a different network?

Best,

Alex

"Hang on while I try to connect to WiFi"

I can try putting it on a different network and get back to you.

Hey folks,

Thanks for the update.

@RobbieB, let us know if connecting it to a different network gives the same result.

@kylemain, have you tried the steps RobbieB did? You can also try setting it up to a different network to rule out the issue.

Best,

Alex

After about two months my replacement mini is working fine. Hope this post does not jinks it. I made no other changes but the unit itself. My other 5 units are also fine.

You are right. Don't jinks it 😉
After years of issues and even new devices. Everyting is holding up fine (for months now)
Even an older device that constantly had issues is this time fixed with a factory reset.
Could it be that firmware has been rolled out that has corrected our issues?

years later, im still having the same problem.

tried different Internet providers, put the mini right beside the router, updated the software, but still can only hold on for a few days and then I have to do a hard reset. Super annoying!

So far my problem was solved by a new mini. But only time will tell.

Hi everyone,

Thanks for responding.

@Bruce0930, sorry to hear about this experience. Could you please tell us how many Google Nest speakers are affected?

@irvplotkin, thanks for letting us know about this. Let us know if you have additional questions and I'd be glad to answer it for you.

Best,

Princess

I have only one Nest Mini at my home, and it is the one having the problem. Although I also have a Nest Learning Thermostat, so far so good.

Update from my side. I had the Mini connected to a dedicated WiFi access point only offering 2.4 GHz. Earlier that was the only way for me to get it a bit more stable. Now I have factory resetted the device and connected it to my main WiFi 2.4+5 Mesh network. And I am happily surprised that it had a stable connection for about a week now. So I assume that there was an automatic firmware update that finally has solved the blocking issue for me. Will monitor the coming weeks of course.

How is it possible that the makers of android are not capable of making a decently working simple android device? All my other android wifi devices are working without a problem.

Hey HPelgoog,

Thanks for letting us know about the issue, and sorry to hear that your Nest Mini keeps on disconnecting to the network. A few questions: how many Google Nest speakers are affected? Have you tried setting up your devices on a different network like mobile hotspot?

Looking forward to your response.

tried different Internet providers, put the mini right beside the router, updated the software etc. I have no experience with mobile hotspots and shouldn't need to imho.

I think it is hardware not s/w issue.

I think so. But sometimes it could be covered by the f/w.

btw i get the same error messages from the nest 2 that everybody gets for years now. I own 1 nest device.

Hey folks,

Thanks for your time updating this thread. For those users who haven't provided the current firmware version of your device, please do so. Also, does the same issue happen when you connect your device on a different network like mobile hotspot?

All my Google Nest Minis are in their own WiFi know. This is not stated as a requirement to make them work, so this still needs to be fixed in my eyes. Had to extra buy an additional AP for them.

Yesterday I had the same problem with 1 of my 3 devices again, in this new WiFi. If it helps, I may share the serial number of it. Logging to Google is activated, so there might be crash logs for this device.
