Google Nest Mini 2nd Gen Setup Issues

Brief context:

I bought a Nest Mini 2 (Model: H2C) for my girlfriend's place. Was working with issue for the past 3 months. Suddenly started having connectivity issues. Post reboot and setup it worked fine for a while. Issue recurred, now we cannot even complete the setup.

Steps taken to rectify this:

  • I have tried rebooting the router and the nest mini several times.
  • Tried completing factory resetting nest mini.
  • Tried forgetting WiFi networks in Google Home app.
  • Uninstalled and reinstalled Google Home App 
  • Tried completing the setup of the nest Mini on both my Android phone and my girlfriend's iPhone.
  • Even eliminated the possibility of the router being the issue by using our phones as mobile hotspots to complete the setup on each other's phones.

Current status:

Google home app picks up the nest Mini without issue, but:

  • On my android phone it states that an app update is required despite my having the latest app.(pre and post the latest play store update)
  • This error isn't present on my girlfriend's iPhone, however when it gets to the "select a WiFi network" section of the wizard, no WiFi networks are picked up at all.

Is this a damaged WiFi component or firmware issue? ... Either way there is no way to update since we can't even get past the setup phase. Is there anything that can be done at all? Any help would be appreciated.
