Google Nest Mini 2nd Gen Wifi

Hi,

I have a Google Nest Mini 2nd Gen setup in an upstairs bedroom and it has been running well for years with no problem.  My network was a traditional router with a wifi extender, but I just switched to a Nighthawk Mesh wifi 6 because my speeds were slow and there were some connectivity issues with the extender.

The Mini 2 was working well after the switch, but then it started saying cannot connect to the wifi.  I have done the factory reset a number of times and it will work for a few days then drop again.  The other devices on the same floor are all connected with no issues, but this one seems to be problematic.

not really sure what to do next.

Same here. Bought 2 mini, gen2 few years ago, one for bedroom, one for kitchen. Since first install, the kitchen one looses connection to WiFi after approx 48hrs. My son was so fed up, we switched to Alexa...that solved the problem, never ever dropped out. However, my son has fled the nest and took his Alexa speakers, so out came the nest mini's. I was so hopeful the issue would be resolved now, but alas, it still regularly drops out. The fix is a pain in the xxx. Turn off the mic, press centre and hold so it does z factory reset. Power down. Power back up and reinstall as new on Google home. Rinse and repeat 48hrs later!

Same here. I have had to constantly factory reset it every 48 hrs.  Right now I moved another functioning Nest 2 into the room to see if it starts doing the same thing.  If it does, I am assuming it has to do with my Nighthawk range, if it doesn't than it is an issue with the Nest 2.

Hi sthieu,

Thank you for posting in the community. I'm sorry to hear that you're experiencing issues with Google Nest Mini connecting to WiFi. I understand how frustrating this can be. I'm here to help.

For your concern, please try the below steps:

  • Step 1. Reboot your Wi-Fi router and your Nest speaker or display.

    1. Wi-Fi router

      • Unplug the power source for ~one minute and plug it back in.
      • Note for Netgear Nighthawk users: If you're unable to set up using the Netgear Nighthawk router, then you may need to:
        • Disable access control
        • Enable the option 'Allow guests to see each other and access my local network' in the 'Guest network setup.'
    2. Nest speaker or display
      • Disconnect the power cable from the speaker or display.
      • Reconnect the power cable back into the speaker or display.

Step 2. Turn the mobile setup device's Wi-Fi off and on.

    1. Open Wi-Fi settings on your mobile device. For detailed steps:

    2. Turn Wi-Fi off and then back on again.

Step 3. Switch Wi-Fi router bands (dual-band routers only).

If you have a dual-band router, try to set up your speaker or display on both the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands.

Let me know how it goes and keep me posted.

Regards,

Kevin

I truly believe I was sold one good speaker and one dud speaker. I have had the same issue with just one of my speakers since new. During that time the problem has occurred with various routers, both single and dual. Various off/on, resets etc...all a waste of time as issue comes back after 2 days no matter what you do. If I had faith in these speakers I'd cut my losses and buy another but unfortunately my faith in these being reliable is zero.

So, I moved another nest into the bedroom and is working fine.  I moved the malfunctioning nest to where the other one was and after 48 hrs it lost connection.

I did all the steps above and same thing happens.
