Google Nest Mini 2nd gen - often says "Something went wrong. Try again in a few seconds."

Hi all,
my name is Dario and I'm from Italy.
A week ago I've got a brand new Google Nest Mini(GNM).
From the real first hours the device started tell me "Something went wrong. Try again in a few seconds.", in italian: "Si è verificato un problema, riprova tra qualche secondo.".
During this week I've tried many and many workarounds, but nothing seems works for a long period of time.
What I've tried:
  • associated GNM to an account with other operating devices (Android TV, air purifiers, motorized roller shutters and security camera)
  • associated GNM to my personal account with no devices
  • connected GNM to 5 GHz wifi
  • connected GNM to 2.4 GHz wifi
  • connected less than 2 meters far the router wifi
  • connected also 10 meters far of router wifi
  • set an IP reservation on GNM
  • connected with 3 different devices:
    1. LTE router: TP-Link MR600 (2.4/5 GHz)
    2. DSL modem Asus DSL-AC55U (2.4/5 GHz)
    3. Powerline Asus PL-N12 (2.4 GHz)
  • tried five factory reset of GNM
In any combination of the above cases, GNM goes online and does stuff correctly for some time, but after random time, it starts reply "Something went wrong ...". Then, after a period of time, GNM returns operative.
For example:
  • me: "Hey Google, play AC/DC music"
  • GNM: "Sure! bla bla bla"
  • after 30 min of music play...
  • me: "Hey Google, stop"
  • GNM: "......Something went wrong. Try again in a few seconds."
  • me: "Hey Google, stop"
  • GNM: "......Something went wrong. Try again in a few seconds."
  • other 3 minutes of AC/DC music
  • me: "Hey Google, stop"
  • GNM: "Sure!"
I've tried costant ping from my PC to the GNM in order to detect an offline (GNM never went offline when happens "Something went wrong. Try again in a few seconds.")
I've also tried tests like this: with 3 different active devices in the same room I've said "Hey Google. When Wikipedia was born?":
  • results with GNM OK:
    • My personal Android phone (Xiaomi): listen
    • Nest Mini: listen
    • Android TV (Sony): listen and returns the result
  • results with GNM KO:
    • My personal Android phone (Xiaomi): listen
    • Nest Mini: "......Something went wrong. Try again in a few seconds."
    • Android TV (Sony): listen and returns the result
Are there some tests that can I perform in order to detect the root cause of the issue? Could you help me please?

Thank you in advance,

Dario

@darioCe

Do you have a good Wi-Fi signal strength in your Nest Mini's location? If you temporarily plug your Nest Mini in a location closer to your router or access point, does the same thing happen?

If that doesn't help, you could try to contact Support, using the link and instructions in this post:

Hi and thank you for your reply.

The wifi signal is strong, but I've tried near and far from the routers. The problem recurs even after turning the GNM off and on again by disconnecting it from the power.

I will attempt to contact support with the instructions you provided.

Thank you again,

Dario

There can be reasons why Google says something went wrong.

• The device is too close to the router

• A faulty internet connection

• Not having the phone connected to the same Wi-Fi network.

• You may have a router problem.

Hello everyone and thanks for the advice.

I successfully opened a support ticket and managed to communicate with an operator.

I explained the issues and he followed me through troubleshooting.

In addition to the problems with the reachability of Google services, I experienced an annoying noise that is randomly emitted by the Nest Mini: a TOCK! noise when playing music.

Unfortunately there was no way to solve these problems and operator advised me to return the device.
