Google Nest Mini Speakers Not Staying Connnected

MrTots

Hey All,

strangely both my mini speakers no longer stay connected on the Google home app. They have both been connected for years with no issues but a few weeks ago both disconnected. I have tried hard resetting them both and reconnecting them. They will connect for a little bit and work but then a few hours later will disconnect and say “offline”.

Hi @MrTots,

Thanks for reaching out here in the community! I understand both your Google Nest Mini speakers are disconnecting and appearing 'offline' in the Google Home app, with the connection dropping after only a few hours despite your troubleshooting efforts. I appreciate the steps you've already taken, and I'm here to help.

To better investigate the situation, I’d like to ask for the following information:

  • Did you hear any audible error messages when the disconnections occurred?
  • Could you please describe how you performed the hard reset?
  • Do your speakers reconnect automatically, or do you have to manually reconnect them to the network using the Google Home app?
  • What's the approximate distance between the speakers and your Wi-Fi access point or router?

In the meantime, I'd suggest the following steps:

  • Ensure your mobile device and the Google Home app are fully updated.
  • Reboot your router by unplugging it for 2 minutes and then plugging it back in. Also, check for and install any available firmware updates for your router, as these often resolve connectivity issues.

I look forward to your response.

Best regards,

Jenniffer

Hello,

  • Did you hear any audible error messages when the disconnections occurred? No audible error messages occur when they disconnect.

  • Could you please describe how you performed the hard reset? One of them was reset by holding down the pin sized button on the bottom. The other by holding one finger in the middle of the speaker.

  • Do your speakers reconnect automatically, or do you have to manually reconnect them to the network using the Google Home app? They reconnect for a little bit and function fine if I unplug them and plug them back in. Shortly afterwards they disconnect.

  • What's the approximate distance between the speakers and your Wi-Fi access point or router? One is about 10 feet and the other is about 60.

In the meantime, I'd suggest the following steps:

  • Ensure your mobile device and the Google Home app are fully updated. They are fully updated, just rechecked.

  • Reboot your router by unplugging it for 2 minutes and then plugging it back in. Also, check for and install any available firmware updates for your router, as these often resolve connectivity issues.checked and attempted but it did not resolve the issue.

Hi MrTots,

Thanks for following up and the information you provided!

Based on the information, it appears you've already performed a factory reset on both devices, yet the issue persists. To continue investigating, I'd like to gather the following details:

  • Have you made any changes on the network?
  • Do your speakers remain controllable by Google Assistant even when they appear offline in the app?

For now, I'd suggest the following workarounds:

  • Try moving the speaker that's currently 60 feet from the router closer to it. This will help us determine if the distance is causing the issue with this specific device.
  • If possible, please try setting up a temporary mobile Wi-Fi hotspot. Then, perform a factory reset on one of your Google Nest speakers and connect it to this hotspot. This helps determine if the issue is with your primary Wi-Fi network.

Keep me updated.

Best regards,

Jenniffer

No changes were made at all and they are uncontrollable.

I have also tried what you suggested and unfortunately I am still getting the same issue.
