Google Nest Mini and Google Nest Hub Only Plays One Stereo Channel

I want to first say I DO NOT WANT TO PAIR TWO SPEAKERS FOR STEREO. I say that because I've seen so many responses that start off by telling someone how to pair two speakers. That is NOT what I want to do. With that out of the way, my issue is instead of playing both channels in mono like it should, it only plays one channel and so, especially some music, drops some instruments and vocals because they are on the other channel. For decades after the introduction of stereo, record players, radios, etc. would play both stereo channels through one mono speaker. I don't see why, with advance technology, Google speakers can't do the same thing.  It shouldn't make any difference, but I'm using YouTube music service. There isn't a mono/stereo option in Google Home, only the option to pair two speakers...which is NOT what I want to do. I have a single speaker in each room. If anyone can help me figure this out I'm open to all suggestions except how to pair two speakers for stereo, I would be very grateful.

I'm a little confused as my speakers definitely do nog behave this way, unless I have paired them in stereo.  Does it happen when you play on just one speaker, or only when you play on multiple at the same time ?

It happens all the time, if I'm playing one or all. I'm not sure if others don't notice or not since it can be subtle.

Hi bearwolf56,

Thanks for posting in the community!

I'm so sorry to hear that the Google Nest Mini and the Google Nest Hub are only playing one stereo channel. No worries, I'm here to help! Just to get started I have a couple of questions that will help me provide you some troubleshooting steps. Can you help me answer them?

  • What generations are the devices, first or second generation?
  • Do you have a speaker group created with these devices?
  • Have you tried to reset the device?

If you have more questions for me, feel free to reply to this post. I'll be happy to assist further!

Best regards,

Nery.

I have found a solution although not a great one. When playing on speaker groups, I go to my Nest Hub and select which speakers that aren't playing. Doing this I can turn all speakers. It is a work around but a pain having to do this each time I want all the speakers to play in my speaker group. I guess technology hasn't advanced as far as I thought it had.  Thank you for your help and imput.

Upon closer attention to this issue it appears that not all songs are playing with only one channel. This must have something to do with either the mix or Yahoo Music. I would like to thank everyone who has posted to my issue. It appears it's not a problem with all songs.
