Google Nest Mini automatically connecting to other devices

ChloMo16

I've been playing white noise on my Google Nest Mini speaker for my puppy which has been working great - however when I play audio through the speaker (and even though the device is only set up for my phone) the speaker automatically shows up in my partner's Google home app under "other devices". It means he can control the speaker but also that this is draining both of our phone batteries! There is no option to disconnect on his end and I've tried turning off the option "let others control your cast media" but it's still playing off his phone! Is there a fix for this?

Thank you,

Chloe

Hi ChloMo16,

Thanks for posting and I'm sorry if you're experiencing this kind of concern. If your husband is added as a home member and on the same Wi-Fi network, then that feature is working as intended. It might also drain your phone's battery but not to the point of becoming the reason for its drainage. All other apps are working in the background, not just your Home app. If you decide to ― it would really help a lot if you could try the steps below to remove others as a home member:

  1. Open the Google Home app.
  2. Switch to the home you want to edit.
  3. Tap Settings>Household.
  4. Next to the name of the home member you want to remove, tap the 3 dots.
  5. Tap Remove.

Keep us posted.

Best,

Dan

Thanks Dan, my boyfriend wasn't added to the Google Home, it seems to be that because he is on the same WiFi network and has a Google phone it just automatically connected the device to his phone. Tried deleting the entire home and resetting but no joy. Only Resolution was in my boyfriend deleting the Google Home app.

Hi folks,

Apologies for the delayed response. This is not the experience we wanted you to have. A few things: which Nest speakers are we working with or is it just the Nest Mini? Were there any recent changes made?

It would help a lot if you could do a sequential reboot first:

  1. Unplug the power cord of your router followed by your Nest speakers.
  2. Plug them back in after 3 minutes tops.
  3. Restarting your phone might also help.

By the way, ChloMo16, when you mentioned that your boyfriend wasn't added to your Google Home app, does that mean both of you are able to control your Nest Mini even when under 2 different accounts and mobile device?

Looking forward to your response.

Kind regards,

Dan

Hi Muddi,

I've seen them but they have not fixed my issue. It seems that anyone who is on the same WiFi network is automatically connected to the Nest and there is no workaround on the settings or by setting up a new home, deleting the home etc (which he has never been added onto). So unfortunately these responses have not resolved my problem and the only way we could get around it was by having my boyfriend delete his Google Home app, which is not ideal at all.

I am not sure why any of you respond but not actually providing an answer.
I have the same issue and no one is added to my home. I have an iPhone and my girlfriend has a google phone. We wake up each day and her battery is depleted when I run the white noise over night.

It shows up on her phone and she can even stop the noise and play music, tho this speaker has never been shared with her.

Exactly our issue!! Only way we could get round it was by having my boyfriend delete the Google home app. Not ideal but we will just control our devices from my phone as there seems to be no fix for this, it basically just automatically connects you if you're on the same WiFi network which is wild!

I believe this is what you are looking for so that other do not connect.

Thanks for this, unfortunately it didn't work for us, the white noise was still playing off my boyfriend's phone.
